Sure it's boring. I would go with Android over iOS any day. But if a some non techie person try out Android for the very first time they will get pretty frustrated with all the buttons and not knowing how to get back or where to go so they are stuck and won't bother coming back to it. Even a techie guy like me first time trying Android at a store pretty much gave up on it because I couldn't figure out all the crazy buttons. That's why iOS is totally dump down because it straight forward and not only that they have their own store with people to show them how to use the iOS. If Android don't want to frustrates some Moms out there they better have some representative for some big stores that carry their products and demo for people that are looking at them. Even Best Buy got themselves an Apple guy at their station. I'm pretty sure Apple hired that person for Best Buy. But this doesn't mean I still don't have problem with Android. When you let the hacking communities put some free softwares full of advertisements and who knows what onto it there's a big problem. They need to tighten that up because there are some crap load of stuff that's running in the background that shouldn't be. Their multitasking need to be fix. They need to get their act together because Android is sluggish and power hungry.
Verizon is also a good example of this. They didn't need the iPhone, at all. Plus, they backed Samsung last month in court.
I agree. Even with dual-cores it runs worse than single core iPhones or Windows Phones. Didn't ICS address some of this, especially stuff running in the background ?
Why does everyone think that everyone else is like them? How hard is to believe that some people prefer simplicity (without being "Apple's b****") or other people love customization and variety (without being tech nerds)?
Since I consider myself a member of the hacking community, when do we put free software full of ad's? Sure, some applications may have ads, as do iPhones (Specifically with games such as Words with Friends, etc ). Developers have to make money right? As for ad's being through the operating system, I've never seen that Explain what's running in the background that shouldn't be. Apps running in the background aren't necessarily a bad thing anymore. For most of us, the system running on our Android phones, and the way it handles RAM usage, is very different than what we are used to on our computers Android, like Mac OS and Ubuntu, wants to use all the RAM it can, because that's how it was designed to work. There are settings (in Android we call them "minfree" settings) to tell the system how much RAM to leave free and available, but the rest is designed to fill up as fast as possible and stay that way. Not saying you use a taskiller but if you do, that has the potential to make your phone "sluggish" . Android the OS isn't exactly power hungry, it's just that Android integrates with social media alot differently than iPhones do and of course if you have your Twitter, Facebook, Goolge Plus, LinkedIn, and etc running at the same time you will have that problem. Battery technology still hasn't really evolved either. Rogue apps are apps that continously use your CPU percentage, not your ram, or if they're running the background. Alot of the times, it runs as an idle service, which appears to be doign something, but it's not, and is needed for something critical in the file system.
I was referring to carrier's and manufacturers when I said not everyone want's to be Apple's b****. Not people. If you like iTunes, and other Apple services that integrate with each other, then that's cool.
apple is the superior phone if you leave it 'stock' ... most consumers prefer that... example, i got people in this office who use android that has app icons slathered from screen to screen... might as well be an iphone... for those kind of users, yes iphone is the better phone, i don't think anyone will disagree with that for the folks who like to twitch and configure their shiney toy for hours and hours, which is the beauty of android, obviously they will prefer the android OS, and while android is fine as stock, it's not as 'polished' as iOS out of the box... android is leaps and bounds better than iOS for folks like scionxa for those exact reasons chill out folks
Trolls like Mr. Scarface have ruined this thread. We were just fine discussing a great new phone until he came along.
My opinion is that it's the other way around. Android is great stock. The ability to sideload apps w/o having to root the phone and customize your homescreens is endless. I had little need to touch my gf's iphone or ipad until I had it jailbroken. Most of the apps I wanted to use on IOS I had to pay for so I just didn't install it. Basically the phone was nice to look at. It had a smooth interface and not much else while I was going to town with my android devices. After I jailbroke the ipad and iphone THEN it became a lot more interesting. I installed apps that I would normally never get and sometimes I use her ipad/iphone a bit more than my tab/phone. Both are great devices depending on what it is you want. I'm quite the power user and love tinkering so Android is for me. My gf is a less technical so the interface works for her. I'm glad to say I have the best of both worlds though when it comes down to it. I guess I kind of planned it that way .
I think by "stock" he meant out-of-the-box, with no customization. Like people who have the giant clock on their home screen.
I ordered an iphone 4S today (with a new contract in Germany). Being the tech nerd that I am, I won't rule out getting the Nexus at some point in the future as well anyway...
Troll? Really? You can't handle the truth. Such a great new phone with an almost 2 year old GPU??? I thought the Nexus phones were about "cutting edge"?
Um....Verizon Iphone. 1 phone vs. 20 Android phones. You missed the point. PROFIT. HTC, Motorola, and Samsung profit made on each phone is combined about a 3rd of what Apple makes. We are not talking about July....we are talking NOW. iPhone now on all 3 major carriers, with 2 of the 3 carries having a free, $99, and $199 price point will being interesting to watch. Android will be #1 market share because there probably 20 different Android phones on EACH carrier in the US alone. However, the best selling individual phones with be: the iPhone 4s, iPhone 4, and the iPhone 3GS....bank on it. The problem with Android was actually summed up on the day the Galaxy Nexus (Supposed Flagship phone) was announced. Motorola Droid Razar stole much of the Nexus thunder on the same day. It seems that every other week a new Android phone with the same or slightly better specs is released. Good luck getting future Android updates for an old phone (1 year old....), Samsung screws phone buyers more than any other manufacturer.
PowerVR SGX540 is not that bad. I'm not a gamer so that doesn't bother me one bit. Internals aren't bad for the Prime, and what exactly is cutting edge about the 4s? It's not Siri, I'll tell you that. Even it's A5 chip is made by Samsung Has one of Yamaha's latest geomagnetic sensor as well http://www.yamaha.com/news_release/2011/20110307.html Along with a "first of it's kind" barometer http://www.bosch-sensortec.com/content/language1/downloads/Flyer_BMP180_v5_032011_web.pdf Sure, one may say that it doesn't mean crap to them . One can say the same thing about the GPU. If I really want a nice GPU in a handheld device, i can go grab a PS Vita with it's horrendous battery life.
Ha, I know some of the inner workings around Samsung, and it may sometimes be obvious that I favor them but it is what it is. See, about 9 months ago when Benny left a certain Google owned company for Sammy, a little initiative came up to get closer to the developers because we were the main ones b****ing about everything. http://www.xda-developers.com/announcements/ask-samsung-a-question/ This actually was due in part to Alex (designer of Touchjizz) feeling the heat on the orginal builds of the touchwiz UI, and getting RIL merged with original WI-MAX builds of the varient (Reason why Epic 4g took until Feb 26th, 2011 to get it's 2.2 update) Soon there after, things starting getting interesting. A certain someone named Steve Kondik started receiving e-mails. This certain someone is the founder of Cyanogen who is now an official employee of Samsung. Notice any CM rip off's in 4.0 ICS? that was Matias Duarte and Steve doing that. My point is, Samsung has re-established itself in the developer community, they are now pretty decently GPL compliant, release kernel sources in a decent timely manner, etc. It is not their intention to screw you over, it is your carriers intention to do so. Just because something sells more doesn't necessarily make it a better product. That would be like how GSM is the dominant standard in the world but from a technical standpoint, is GSM better than CDMA? No. I'm not going to sit here and bash the iPhone because it's a nice device, I've unfortunately had to spend time with one for a project but I can see why people think it's the best. Nerds will be nerds, right? *Last names were removed
I love seeing you iTrolls. Last year the iPhone 4 released with an 800MHz processor and PowerSGX535 and it was "not about the specs," it was about optimization and "just working." Now Apple releases the 4S which does have top of the line specs and all of a sudden "SPECS ARE EVERYTHING." You guys are so controlled by Apple, it is so hilarious to me. The PowerSGX540 is a really good GPU. Keep in mind, it is running at a clockspeed of 384MHz (the Galaxy S/Nexus S had the same GPU at a clockspeed of 200MHz). Plus keep in mind, the OS is optimized for this particular chip. So even though it isn't the latest/greatest, it could potentially run smoother than better GPUs on the same OS. ICS is the first iteration of Android which took one year to release (1.0-->1.5-->1.6-->2.0-->2.1-->2.2-->2.3 all happened from late 2008-late 2010). As a result, they have been working on ICS/Galaxy Nexus for a longer time (so yes, some of the tech in the Galaxy Nexus seems old/outdated but optimization should make up for it).
The A5 chip is Manufactured by Samsung....It's not a Samsung chip. a highly customized ARM chip designed by Apple-owned chip companies. Apple is moving away from Samsung for manufacturing because of Samsung has too much inner-knowledge of Apple's design processes and has been copying those. That the reason so many Samsung smartphones resemble Apple. Hence, the patent fight.
