oops, i correct myself, april 30th seems like the likely release date for the palm pre, but of course, since you're an existing customer, you can call them now and see if you can get one earlier, sorta like what t-mobile customers did with the blackberry curve2 source: http://i.gizmodo.com/5188699/rumor-palm-pre-beta-tester-gives-april-30th-as-planned-release-date
I have had the Instinct since last October. There is good and not-so-good about it. One thing - it definitely is NOT an 'I-Phone Killer'. Not even close. That said, it does have some clear advantages over the apple. Camera, memory expansion, and for me, the biggest issue, the oh-so-sweet tactile feedback. samsung kicked Apple's ass on this one. Lots of other good features on it - the voice command dialing of course, the ability to just say a business name and it pops up everything around with that name, including how far away they are, a map, and one touch to dial the number. (on a lark I said 'Pappasito's'.. and it popped right up, followed by (LOL) all the 'hospitals' it could find.. ) Accessing and managing your emails is easy. You can expand the memory. Viewing pics is pretty nice, you have that same 'sweeping' motion in a lot of its applications that Apple likes to show on their commercials. The not-so-good. Well, this is touted as a 'media phone'. As a media device, it is never going to be a substitute for a real media device like a Creative or an Archos or a Touch. It's just not. The screen is just too small, and Samsung can never figure out how to do a good interface for such things. Video performance is essentially worthless, the so-called 'watching television' on it is little more than a novelty. Browsing the internet is not a very good experience. Again, the screen is just too darn small. I can't imagine anyone using it for internet for anything other than an absolute necessity.Don't get me wrong - it works. It's just not a joy-filled satisfying experience. A couple of other issues which don't become apparent until you actually USE it: one, the GPS is not really a GPS, at least I don't believe it is. It uses local cell towers to 'triangulate' your location, which is not as accurate or reliable as satellite, and also relies on having towers nearby. Try having it guide you to a street address in San Antonio, for example, you'll see what I mean. It is no substitute for a Garmin, if you are going to be driving out of town anywhere. (Oh and the 'applications store' is less than a joke. Someone asked if it could play games? This phone does not have a processor capable of it. I bought 'Loco Roco', just to see if it could handle it. No, it can't. This is not a game device, there are no free demos of anything that I can find, and the selection may as well come from the little tray in front of the bullet-proof glass at the gas station. Pitiful.) Second, when you want to actually USE the phone, you HAVE to look at it, because it is all on the touch-screen. And doing things like answering or hanging up don't just require a touch, they require a *slide*. This is fine, unless you want to use your phone while you are (theoretically) driving. In other words, you can't answer and hang up by touch, you have to look at it. Not a killer, but definitely not the phone I would recommend if you have to use it in conjunction with your hands-free device while driving. All in all, though, I have enjoyed mine. As a phone, as a text-messaging device, as a way to have email handy all the time, as a camera, video cam, as a portable weather station, data access and video and music if you have to use it for that, it is all there. And considering that it can be had for as little as $49 on sale sometimes, well, not bad. Just don't expect to stop eyeballing those I-Phones with envy.
I've had the Instinct since it came out. My wife and I both bought one. We really like it, but we don't use every feature like some of you probably do/would. The GPS is great, but the phone does need to update itself fairly often. We don't have any complaints and are actually pretty happy considering what we paid. It's been a very reliable phone for us.
On second thought, Nero summed up the phone perfectly in the post above. I agree 100%. As for the "GPS," it isn't so great in the boonies, but I've had it work quite well in major metros. The bluetooth works really well in my car which has eliminated the annoying need to "slide," the phone while driving. The vibrate mode is not nearly strong enough though. I miss alot of calls when it's in my pocket in vibrate mode.
i think the Instinct is great, but i don't jump on the latest-and-greatest bandwagon that often, so it was miles ahead of my last phone. sprint did remove all my music not too long ago, i assume for a licensing issue. i may have been drinking at the time and didn't read the message too carefully. who knows? maybe i deleted them accidentally.
