I agree with you LeGrouper, either your on the wagon or your off but don't be a fair weather fan and say I don't want to watch them anymore like our friend Solid, because they haven't added anyone to the roster. Give JVG some time, this team will improve and will make the playoffs.

Never underestimate the importance of the right coach.

Tampa Bay Bucs gave up everything up to their soul to get Jon Gruden and I think it ended up pretty well for them.

Although I don't forsee anything like that happening to the Rox this year, particularly with that mini-cheese bite all-star team out in LA, but playoffs is all I ask.

In 2 years though, my expectations are going to meet a huge bump up.

True, I don't like the current team, and I have followed the Rockets since Rudy and Calvin played. I love the Rockets; I don't like the current lineup. One game out of the playoffs?! So what? They were the most frustrating Rocket's team to watch, ever. They WERE "crap!" So, JVG and the long suffering fans have to go through another year of agony?! The new coach can watch the tapes and see:
    1. Francis, the make believe All-Star, dribble in circles, drive into four on one situations, and make dipsy doddle passes for turnovers.
    2. Mobley throw up wild shots, and miss most of them.
    3. Griffin shoot threes, and miss most of them
    4. Moochie dribble, dribble, dribble, and dribble
    5. Ming standing three feet from the basket and not recieve the ball.
    6. Everybody else miss shots, and miss shots, and miss shots...
    7. And virtually no one defend.

Yes, the current team could be a FORCE in the Big Twelve, but they will be the Little Sisters of the Poor in the NBA West. Even Ray Charles can see that they won't even get out of Texas. Get Real guys! Wake Up! No meaningful line up changes, no upgrades equals toliet time. And many empty seats.

    :)

Record-wise, they were one of the most improved teams in the league...

Of course, that reminds me of what Mark Twain said about statistics. Essentially, that means nothing. Look, the Francis era is over. He had his chance, zippo. It is time for a fresh start. JVG will have a significant impact. Some members of the current team will have more direction and may play better. BUT, JVG needs more to work with to be competitive in the West. Perhaps what many of you are looking for is to "make the playoffs" and be swept in the first round. If that makes you happy, well, it might happen. Then again, it might not. Many of you have grossly overrated the current talent. But you are not alone, many All Star voters and sports commentators did the same.

What they see is the current team being good in 5 years. After everyone is said and done, they finally see our team going to the 2nd or 3rd round, they just want to be the Timberwolves with are current lineup, not willing to make sacrifices on rosters. Oh well lets get ready for the Houston TimberWolves, enjoy!

And how often do you expect JVG to be on the floor playing Kobe, Shaq, Gary, Dirk and Tim? To believe that a coach can make this into a playoff team is to set yourself up for a huge disappointment. Even with JVG, they'll be lucky to make the playoffs.

What no one here wants to consider is that the "talent" on this team is overrated and is not comparable with the talent on the top teams in the West.

Different sports. Coaches aren't that important in the NBA.

So what is your point then? Shall we trade for Kobe Shaq Gary Dirk and Tim. The Rockets are not the best team in the NBA right now, that's not exactly a big secret. That doesn't mean we should press the panic button and trade everyone away and start over. Besides, no realistic trade or free agent signing can make us a championship team this coming year. The key work being realistic. That would eliminate 99% of the trades and free agent signings proposed on this board.

Francis, Mobley, and Yao are all talented, but are they the best combination of players we can put on the court, and don't you agree, that in any case, they need help?

I have to disagree on the talent comment. The Rox have good talent, Yao and Steve just need more time together to mature. Who has better frontline talent than Houston? LA and that's about it. The other teams have one dominant player (Duncan, KG) or play a team game (Sac., Dallas to a lesser extent). In a year or two Houston will have two dominant players and play as a team under JVG. Their secondline talent is also good with Cat and Taylor who can score, Posey and Cato who can defend and Griffin, Nachbar and Badiane all of whom will hopefully develop in the next couple of years. The future is very bright in Houston, just give it some time.

Wow, I wonder what you were saying about Mad Max, Loose hands Kenny and No-Free-Throw OT back in 93'. That team came together and formed chemistry. This team can do it too because like that team, they are all around the same age and have a great center to build around. Yao has only had one year in the league. His confidence will be immense next year. He will be 22 years old. If playing ball is anything like picking up chicks then 22 should be a much better age for Yao than 21, not to mention the fact that Eddie can now buy beer. Our team is on the up, anyone in the league will tell you that. What is there to not like?

Are you just arriving back in Houston from a very long trip, like ten years? Did you watch many games last year? Like, Eddie buying beer is going to help!? The guy is already smoking dope! And has the charisma of a gourd! Anyone in the league will tell you that our team is on the up!!!!???? Could you please give specific examples.

Alright, you're at least funny solid. I'll give you that. But if you want to know what I like about this team it is very easy to explain. We have the best point guard in the west. A great young shooting guard. We have what would be the best center in the west as long as Duncan is not playing center and Shaq has toe injuries. Our power forward who was once the number one rated high school player in the US has just turned 21, the age Garnett, Kobe and Tmac started playing well. And we have a solid 3 man in James Posey. And all of these players are well under thirty which means they are getting better every year. And now we have a new coach who has a very successful track record and plays special attention to defense which what we need.

Legrouper, its ok man, we just want alot of cents for a dollar you know what i mean???? I like are team alot, and i guess people like you are willing to wait on this team. Some people dont have patience, cause they know that this team might not be all that! Its just hard to tell cause there so young, but i guess after next year the trades are gonna go down if the rockets don't show improvement in assist per game ratio and turnovers, and defence. The offense is good as i can tell how you like this team cause its offensive minded but thats only reason you like it. Anyways it would be nice to see a few players in the rockets new jerseys, thats all i think everyone thinks here. Something to go spend money on. to go see that would be exciting......
