Speaking of UT RBs, what happened to Tre Newton? I don't see him mentioned at all in any of those posts...
Hmm sounds familiar was he SLC's RB? With all the talent in Texas's backfield (with Fozzy now emerging), I would say that he probably wont get any playing time
As someone mentioned earlier, A&M appears to be getting Christine Michael and I don't think they want Sam at tailback. A&M might be looking at him as a slot receiver and return man, ala wes welker. That way he could stay away from all those linemen and linebackers who are lighting the little guy up. We'll see what happens though. A&M is bringing in such a huge class this year, they may not have room.
Rice runs the football more but Bailiff likes mobile QB's and carries get split between the main back and the QB. He did the same thing at Texas State. McGuffie wouldn't get 300 carries at UH or anything either but if he's the #1 back, he'll probably get more there than at Rice. And judging from Sherman's first year in College Station, the same probably holds true for A&M as well.
Well, Rice was certainly the best team out of those three this year. Hopefully Sam comes to Rice - he could really make a difference running and catching the ball. If there's one thing Bailiff can do - it's be creative and find new ways for his stars to get their hands on the ball - just look at James Casey's role. Rice is going to produce two very, very good NFL players from this team - Dillard and Casey. Sam would be wise to avoid A&M where he'd take a beating in the Big XII, if he even sees the field behind some of these highly ranked prospects
I'd still take him at A&M in a heartbeat. I think you use him the same way New Orleans uses Bush. Not as your everydown back, but coming out of the backfield or in the slot position and as a return man. I don't think you can tell what we have at RB right now, our OL was horrible this year. I still think Goodson is a pretty good back and he was not good at all this year. I liked Gray and Stephens, but they didn't look as good as what people told me they would be.
UH run plays: 374 Rice run plays: 412 Difference is pretty negligible, imo. Especially since both offenses tend to have RBs catching the ball. Either way, McGuffie, if healthy, could produce at either place. He has friends on the Rice team, so I hear. But yeah, stay the hell away from A&M. And texxx, take it from someone who is familiar with NFL busts... don't count your eggs before they're hatched on that one. Producing draft picks, yes. Producing talent? We'll see.
If Sam decides based on this year, Rice is a better team. But if he decides on the future, UH is a better team. Rice loses Clement, Dillard, and maybe Casey...that's the offense so maybe Sam would get more opportunities there. UH returns pretty much everyone except Hafner, one year more experienced and with a bitter taste in their mouths.
re: Rice's offense. Very true we lose our big horses, but our O-line is in tact and we got the transfer from Alabama (Fanuzzi) at QB, so I think we'll still have a solid O. We do need a RB/WR combo and McGuffie could star in that role
As an aggie i have no desire to see him at TAMU, im just not impressed. If i was him i would strongly think about Baylor, it keeps him in a big confrence and infront of more scouts, if that is his ultimate goal. Bottom line i dont think he is good and will have little impact in a confrence like the Big 12.
He is good. Real good. I saw him live run all over Notre Dame in South Bend. It was pouring down rain, and we still couldn't stop him.
