There are plenty of people close to the program got wary of the RR's ways. When you break the all-time worst record left and right, it's hard not to. RR was getting more heat because of the defense than offense, but he gets sort of a blank check this year with all "not his player" excuses. If next year's team is going to be below .5 and worse, things will get ugly.
Yeah, 6 4-stars at a position is a bit of a logjam, especially when 5 of them have 3 or more years of eligibility to go. I also can't remember the last time Texas took in a transfer or a juco player. Just not something Mack does, for whatever reason. I think another part of it is McGuffie's just not that good. For a guy that's supposed to be an explosive threat, he didn't have a single run over 30 yards. His rushing numbers are actually below those of Colt McCoy for the last 2 years -- Colt's a great runner, but that shouldn't happen.
hope he comes to UH keenum's passing and his running..game over btw UH COACH SUMLIN IS GETTING EXTENDED 5 MORE YEARS! http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3766818
From watching those videos posted, I think one of McGuffie's problems is that he still thinks he is in high school. He is always trying to run backwards, reverse field, etc... because, in high school, his athleticism was so far above the competition that he could get away with this. Now that the competition has caught up, he needs to work hard and learn to really run the ball.
Has he been doing bad though? I thought he was producing. Especially for a true freshman at a big time program.
Would you really call this edition of Michigan a big time program? I didn't really watch him or anything this year, but he didn't seem particularly good or bad. He seems to run upright, which doesn't really fit his size. Most upright backs are huge beasts and lack the breakaway speed(Unless your Adrian Peterson and have both). He should try switching to WR. Regarding A&M running backs, wtf is wrong with Jorvorskie Lane? I understand his size is one of his assets, but the guy is fat as hell! I don't understand why his coaches didn't have him on a strict diet plan. With the proper fitness, the guy could have been a good one.
Mcguffie is a rare back in that he is technically a "bigger" back because he is most likely 5'10 or taller although he has a slight frame (but he's ripped though). He has great acceleration and straight line speed and overall athleticism, but he does lack lateral agility and doesn't have much wiggle. So he's pretty much zone runner who only needs one cut to break through the secondary. Problem at Michigan was that early on the offensive line was still trying to adapt to the new zone block schemes but by the time they had found some offensive rhythm late in the year Sam was already nicked up. He would be a great fit at any Big 12 school because of the spread offense (particularly OKSt's because ours is a run-oriented type of spread). Imagine if Texas had him this year. He and Obanaya (spelling wrong obviously-too lazy to correct) would have greatly helped McCoy a lot more.
McGuffie probably wouldn't have been able to do much better than the other back we have IMO. If A&M does get Christine Michael, McGuffie should probably look elsewhere.
He wouldn't have played at Texas this year. Or any of the next 3 years. The 6 backs I mentioned before were all as highly regarded if not more so than McGuffie coming out of high school -- McGuffie's freshman campaign showed mediocre production and propensity for injuries. If Texas didn't like the RB corps, DeSean Hales wouldn't have redshirted.
Please. Mcguffie is not 5'10 or taller. Ive seen him in person because he went to my rival high school...and ESPN and scouts board have him listed at 5'11 or sometimes 6'. Hes 5'9, and all he has is speed.
Fozzy is going to be one helluva running back. DeSean Hales will convert to WR probably and will probably end up being our PR and KR
I consider Michigan big time ya, I assumed they have plenty of RBs on the roster and begging to come in. Lane was hurt and ya, he has diet problems. I think Sherman wanted to move him to tackle. Lane is the kind of guy that will really benefit from the pre-NFL camp.
Last I heard on Hales was they plan to use him as a Ramonce Taylor hybrid. DJ Monroe was also converted to wideout as the DB depth chart is just absurd right now -- 12 4*s or better on campus in the secondary next year, which doesn't even include Blake Gideon. DJ Monroe, DJ Grant, Greg Timmons, Buckner, Collins, Kirkendoll, Malcolm Williams plus Shipley coming back is a lot of talent at the receiver spots, too.
Loved Ramonce.. too bad he ran into trouble with the law. Buckner and Williams will be amazing. Kirkendoll I am not too excited about, and Collins seems to have the speed but his hands are horrible. I believe in the Tech game he had 4 dropped passes?
He has speed. But I have doubts about his toughness/durability. He'd be better off in spaces than between the tackle. Minor was more effective than him the past season.
I honestly think Brandon Wegher and Rex Burkhead will fare a lot better than Mcguffie at the next level - as far as white running backs are concerned.
Yeah I actually think Jake Sharp is a very solid back although he has a very similar frame to Mcguffie, but he is almost just as fast and might be quicker.
I was pulling for him to fail since he left the state of Texas, but now that he's apparently coming back, I hope he succedes. Seeing him go to Baylor and pairing him with Griffin would be interesting.
