Dave Campbell's Texas Football picks Sam Houston to win the Southland (again).

Not exactly going out on a limb there, but I think it's pretty cool that Timothy Flanders is the only FCS player on the first team All Texas College Team.

I wonder what Flanders has to do to win the Walter Payton Award this year.

Looks like we are FINALLY getting some upgrades to our (high school 5-A) stadium. New press box supposed to be completed next year:

That is awesome! Might be the last season Fritz is with the Bearkats. Some one (cough UH cough) might be looking for a *hot* FCS coach to move up to the FBS.

I think they should be #2 but I'm still happy with the way things are. Maybe #1 after we beat A&M.

I was reading the sunday sports page this weekend and as I was looking through the Chronicle Top 100 area high school recruits, something jumped out at me. One of the better QB's in the state has committed to a little school about 60 miles north of Houston. :)

    http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/173153/cole-martin

So I guess coach Fritz already has a heir apparent to Brian Bell. Don't know much about him, but I thought it was a little surprising to see any of those blue chip recruits committing to SHSU. Especially a QB.

He was apparently considering Colorado, Mich. St, Penn St., Rice, TX St., UNT, and WVU...and he chose little ole' SHSU.

I'm wondering if those other schools wanted to convert him to another position and SHSU was the one that said he could remain a qb.

Dipping into the Cypress pool, I see. It is quite the football hotbed.

He's from my neck of the woods (plays for my old high school's rival; I was a little before his time). Cole was part of a Cy-Ranch team that made it to the Region 3 (Division II) final where they ran into the Katy war machine last year. Last year he was kind of overshadowed by Keith Ford, their running back who's now at OU.

But he's no slouch; he will be one of their impact players on offense this year. Nice arm. Makes things happen with his feet.

Agreed. When our starters stomp LSU into the ground, if we don't have some backups to put in after a quarter or two, we'll have a triple digit win margin. LSU doesn't deserve that.

Can you imagine if Sam Houston dropped an L on LSU? I think Huntsville would flip upside down. :)

I think that loud sound you'd hear would be the entire state of Louisiana exploding.

watch out....I'm hearing that Rice is about to poach Sam's athletic director. He's a former Rice football player...

Most Sam alums wouldn't be upset if Rice ended up taking him. He's not exactly Mr. Popularity. SHSU is on the verge of doing some really big things in the athletic department and many feel that Bobby Williams isn't the guy to get those things done.

Yeah, just mention his name on Katfans and see what happens.

Anyhoo, a little love from KHOU. Props to Channel 11 for not totally ignoring FCS football.

I read about this kid on KatFans, but I'm trying to keep from getting too excited. Things can change quite a bit if this kid is improved in his senior season and really shines.

But for the time being, it's a great get for Fritz and Co. I mentioned earlier in this thread the need for a new group to playmakers to emerge to replace the group that is on the way out and this kid could be a big part of that.

49-0 with a few minutes left in the first half. Stadium was full. Good start to the season.
