From @CWoods1122: Wyomings next head coach will be?

I've heard there are three guys getting serious consideration: Oakland Raider assistant Teddy Gilmore; Sam Houston State head coach Willie Fritz and former Cal coach Jeff Tedford. I think if Tedford really wants it, he'd be tough to pass up. Wyoming's such a tough job because it has the least resources in the Mountain West, and is known in the business as the coldest and the farthest, and there simply aren't a lot of big-time recruits in the area. But Tedford would bring the program instant credibility.

I just don't see that being a good fit for Fritz. His roots are down here and he's good at recruiting this region. Not to mention that I think he could do a lot better for an FBS school eventually. If he puts together a couple more nice recruiting classes that can even come close to this Bell/Flanders era, he should get a nice gig somewhere closer.

SMU, on the other hand, might be very tempting for him.

Not worried about the Wyoming rumor at all. That would be a horrible fit for him. That program is a black hole.

As an SHSU fan, I'm much more concerned about the SMU rumor. As much as I'd hate to see him leave, that would be a great gig for Fritz.

Ditto. I think he'd much prefer SMU to Wyoming. I bet that's where he'll be going if he leaves this year.

Agreed. Fritz potentially leaving for Wyoming would be akin to Bob Marlin leaving for ULL. It's not an improvement.

Boise State opening up soon? Maybe Fritz would be interested in that position. FBS school with a FCS wide-open mentality/playbook.

Still scratching my head on that one. He would have been the perfect fit at UH.

I honestly think Marlin panicked when he took the ULL job. "Panicked" is probably too strong a word, but I think he knew he wanted to leave, but was afraid that if he waited much longer to do so that he would get forgotten. ULL came along and raised his pay and had the budget for him to hire a full staff of assistants, which is something he could never do at SHSU and he took it.

It would go to a bidding process.

    Not looking good right now...

Holy ****. Sam Houston looks so overmatched. They're getting dominated on both sides of the ball. Without those turnovers this would already be a slaughter.

Don't know if Bell is still hurt but his passes just are not looking good today. He's usually much better with the deep pass than he's been in this game.

Back in the lead now. Let's see if the defense can hold on...

That was just horrid play calling by Sam on offense and defense. Can't get 1 yard on 2 different drives. Apparently, the defensive coordinator instructed them to stay 20 yards off of any receiver on that last drive.

Oh well. 3 consecutive playoff seasons is something I cannot complain about when you consider the history of the program. Hopefully things are in place to continue this run of success.

Much thanks to Bell, Flanders, Sincere and crew for this great run.

    EAT EM UP KATS!

Couldn't agree more with the post above. SLU was able to make the plays we weren't (converting 3rd and 4th downs). Congrats to Flanders, Bell, Sincere, Williams and all the other seniors. It's been good to be a Bearkat lately and I can't wait to see what happens next year.

Looks like Wyoming signed the better coach with NDSU's Craig Bohl. Tough loss for Bison Nation.

Was surprised to see this for two reasons.

    1. I always figured Bohl would hold out for a job in the Big Ten or at a Pacific Northwest Pac-12 school. Why leave THE best job in FCS for one of the toughest jobs in FBS at a school that isn't in a major conference?

    2. Given that Wyoming doesn't have a bowl game to play and that NDSU is still in the playoffs, I'm surprised at the timing.

Apparently, he also pulled a Todd Graham-type maneuver and didn't mention anything to his players. They all found out on Twitter.

As far as the Kats go, it was a disappointing game. I hated the play call of the quarterback draw on 4th-and-1 late in the fourth quarter and the defense on the eventual game-winning drive for SELa. was atrocious. There were SELa. receivers just standing in open space on every single play. None of the completed passes for the Lions on that drive were even contested.

I wish they had pulled it out, but given that this playoff run felt a little bit like playing with house money, I find it hard to get too down about the loss.

As I've said all season, this next season is huge for the program. Will the program be able to consistently reach and advance in the playoffs after the graduation of that golden class of players?

agree with jdh008. Why accept that job? Win another title and wait to see what other jobs come open. He could certainly do better than Wyoming. He'll be kicking himself if Nebraska comes open. Heck, why not call on Boise.

    And then.....depression set in....

I was at a gig during the game. During the 4th quarter, I was literally playing with one hand while refreshing my phone with my other. (Cannonball can attest to this, he's seen me do it) Saw we took the lead with less than a minute remaining and got excited....only to see the score change after a few refreshes.

It was a good run. I wish we could have pulled it out because we probably would've got a home game on Saturday, where we are pretty much invincible. Unfortunately, the exact opposite can be said about us on the road this year....

I'm spoiled, I guess. I wanted/expected much more this season...

I'll always remeber the Flanders, Bell, Sincere, Williams and Weaver senior class. Great 3 year run. Hopefully we continue to recruit and be a factor in the FCS from here on. With UH, HBU and Baylor getting new stadiums plus aTm and Rice upgrading theirs, it's time for Sam to do better. Bowers needs a better upgrade than what they have presented in past with mainly changing bleachers into seats. Put some walls up so it doesn't just look like a hole in the ground. The program deserves it, esp if we want to stay competitive in future. Thanx again to the seniors, will be missed!

I grew up in Huntsville and went to many games for Huntsville High and Sam at the old stadium. Bowers was a huge upgrade for both schools...but I agree with what you say. Need to upgrade to create a better attraction atmosphere and to attract top level recruits. The school is now on the map big-time...now it's time to follow that up with the next push. There's no reason Sam Houston can't turn into the next NDSU.
