From the things I have read so far about this trade it seems it is more about the Clippers potentially getting a 1st round pick than it is for getting Cassell since they dont have a 1st rounder next season.
Good job moving Cassell by the Wolves, even though Jaric is just as risky a pick up as Kandi was. Dude is shaky running an offense though he can play pretty good ball. Sam, Cat, Maggette, Brand. Could definitely be a playoff team unless they have fistfights over the ball come Dec. A little interesting since Shaun Livingston looked so good last year. Countdown to Cassell b****ing about an extension in 5........4.......3......... Evan
Dude, you don't know what you're talking about. The clippers did not want Okafor because they had Brand + Wilcox at PF. Where is he going to play? Brand is already undersized at 6'8, so you don't want a PF playing C. The other thing was that they were going after Kobe. They gave up Drobniak (sp?) + 2nd pick for the 4th pick. This means they get rid of the 3 mil that Drobniak makes and if you draft 4th, it will save you another million from the 2nd slot.
I dont see Cassell b****ing about an extension. IF he stays with the Clippers all season long (and personally I see him traded somewhere), then he will be looking for a new team at the end of the year. I dont think he will be looking for an 'extension' with the Clippers. More than anything he will be complaining about playing time with Livingston. And that's why I think the trade is a little curious on the Clippers part. You dont bring in Cassell if you want to give Livingston all the playing time at PG.
This is why it makes sense: Sam is a one year insurance policy for Livingston. Livingston only played 30 games last year and is only 19 years old. He is still very raw to be the starting PG for a playoff () team. If he goes down again or if a steady hand is needed late in close games, Cassell can step in.
A good trade on both sides. Minn doesn't need Jaric to "run the offense", KG does that. But if Jaric can hit 3s, run the floor, and play within the system, he will be effective. The Clips were going to lose him anyway, but mid to late 1st rounder and Cassell, and effective player for next year, is solid. Playing the Clips may not be much fun for the Rockets. Cassell and Mobley can each light it up, and they will be very motivated. A split with the Clips next season may not be a bad thing.
My take (based on outside information)... Clippers, are going with Livingston, no room for Jaric, traded him for a pick plus an expiring contract. Cassell is incidental, it is just an expiring contract. ET play, may teach, may be injured, doesn't mattter, as Deuce said, "one year rental". Wolves, desperate to get rid of Cassell. He and Spree's 'give me the money' selfesh crybaby act tore apart a team that finally got out of the first round. Don't really care who they got, just wanted to get rid of the cancer. And no, I don't think the Wolves will be making an offer to Spreewel.
No. But how much does it take to answer a simple, polite question, or to say "I do not want to answer this question"...
Alright! Now I can finally cheer for the Clippers as the "Rockets West" team. They got ex-Rockets Sam and Cutino plus the Rockets fans' dream power forward Elton Brand. This upcoming season is going to be fun.
sam is there to show livingston the ropes and imo will be the starting pg. livingston showed flashed of brilliance last season but sat out about 1/2 of it due to injuries. hopefully shawn has bulked his frame a bit to be able to absorb more contact. i think livingston is still a season or two away from starting and with see more minutes this year but still be the 6th man
Busted. Got to go in hiding now before Sheryl checks up on me and the paparazzi flood clutchfans. Thanks a lot
