TBH there are so many young intriguing coaches BUT that's not what this team needs. Battier is nice, and cassel too, but they are rookie coaches and might struggle to find rotations and what not. This team needs a well experienced coach that can put Harden in his place and make him play defense. Thibidue was my choice but now he's taken.

Didn't we interview him back in '10? I recall preferring him over McHale.

Is it possible for this board to suggest any other candidate for Head Coach that doesn't have Rocket ties?

My vote is for Cassell. He's highly thought of around the league, has that link to the Rockets championship teams and definitely has the basketball smarts for the job. As I see it: this season is the proverbial tuning point for this franchise - Dawson's way did work. Morey replaced him and continued with the same team building strategy used by Dawson which brings us to the dismal situation we have today. Suffice to say, this team and franchise is sorely in need of a new basketball philosophy. It will require a few years of retooling and Cassell would add a lot of value to that process. Plus, I believe that Cassell would be able to coach Harden and be the guy that James would listen to and respect. One thing is certain: this is not going to be an easy process as it would require a radical shift in philosophy from the top of the organization on down. And that may prove to be too much for the current "smartest guy guy in the room" GM.

    BINGO! One More Thing . . . . . ..

Look at the Clippers . .. . PRE SAM . . .and POST SAM

Sam and Cuttino turned that whole organization around as basic coaches on the floor

I recall and Article about it
It told me everything I needed to know about Sam

They were practicing . .. . . .the coach gave them a break
Everyone on the clippers ran to the side lines to hog water
EXCEPT Cuttino and Sam . . . .they shot free throws.
    They did it at every 'break' . . . . .
Soon . . they were joined by other teammates
until they were joined by everyone and no one wanted to take a break

The Clippers were a laughing stock before Sam got there. . . .
they were the baby puppy to the Lakers

Sam changed the culture . .. the mentality there
yea. . . i might be overselling it but dammit Sam is the guy .. he is THAT DUDE

He makes those around him better

Look, we all loved Mario as a player. But, Mario has a hard time just getting an assistants job. If Mario was really head coach material, then I think teams would be after him. I've never heard anyone outside of ClutchFans say he would be a good head coach.

So you'd prefer someone with absolutely ZERO coaching experience. Makes perfect sense somehow.

essentially we are running out of coaching options because we made up our mind to be gentleman swept by GSW?

Blessing in (disguise) if you ask me, lmao at this season

Well, he's certainly paid his assistant coaching dues. He's known as one of the smarter asst. coaches in the league, too.

I'm not sold on him taking control of this team though. Sammy needs to be with a younger team that's rebuilding or working to sneak into the playoffs.

The Rockets need a legitimate, proven, recognized coach to help push James over the top. If we invest in another "project" coach, we'll just be slowing the growth down. Our window will close more quickly.

I like Sam, but I just don't think he's the man for the job. And, to be honest, the best choice is still difficult to identify. Thibs burns, but he got exactly what he wanted in terms of control...and a damn good roster to work with.

    Ugh....

I'll just take a Rockets win tonight.

I don't have anything to really gauge Sam on as a coach, but I like him. I would support him being the coach. I'd be excited about JVG as well. There are others I wouldn't mind giving a chance. Luke Walton's kid isn't one of them, but outside of that, it's pretty open.
