This entire "Pro-Style Offense", "The most NFL-ready Junior QB in NFL History" stuff is really overblown. First of all, Clausen sucks under pressure. How many times did he **** up in the clutch when the game was on the line? Too many times. Sure he may have had 400 yards and 4 TDs over the course of the game, but he never led Notre Dame anywhere. Secondly, to say he had a "terrible team" around him is just flat out stupid. He had Golden Tate and Malcolm Floyd to throw to. Tate is a a Top 5 WR in this draft who has ridiculous hands, and Floyd is arguably the best WR prospect in the 2011 draft class. Clausen doesn't have a QB mentality if you ask me (this is exactly why a lot of NFL teams have been rumored to flat out "hate" his personality), he's a pompous little prick by all accounts, a pretty boy with a sense of entitlement since he's been getting media attention and hype since he was in freaking middle school. He's got talent, he's good enough to play in the league... but I just don't think Clausen is going to handle the pressure of the NFL very well at all.
If goes somewhere where he's in the shotgun the entire time, doesn't have to make many reads, and mainly throws 7 yard outs and check-downs then he might have some moderate success. I like Dan LeFevour out of Central Michigan. He's accurate, very good in the pocket and a clutch performer.
No fricking way. He has a spaghetti noodle of an arm that can only make dink and dunk short passes. His bestest buddy in the world, Jordan Shipley, is the one who made Colt look good with YAC.
Brees is probably one of the most accurate passers in NFL history. Combine that with his dominant offensive line that doesn't allow him to get sacked, and you've got the league's best offense. Rich Gannon didn't have **** for arm strength either, but he was one of the best QBs in the NFL for a 6 years period because of his ability to lead a team , amazing pocket presence, and a crazy work ethic. Colt McCoy is not Drew Brees, never has been, never will be.
Tex Schram said that Colt McCoy would be the best NFL QB out of this entire class. He says if you look at their bodies from when they came into college to where they are now it is an indication of how hard they will work. Schram said Colt will be very successful in the NFL....I agree with him. DD
I understand you supporting him since you are a UT fan. That said, I think that is one of the most ridiculous comparisons I've ever seen. Personally, I don't think McCoy is and NFL QB. He will stick as a backup, but he isn't a starter. He had a really good college career and I think it stops at that.
Been through it before. Vince was the worst obviously, but I had people guaranteeing me Chris Simms would be a Super Bowl MVP in the NFL.
As I've told you before, this is just wrong. You can cap your argument that Clausen never led the Irish to a significant bowl game, but to say he isn't clutch is just flat out wrong. He led ND on SEVERAL game winning drives this year -- you can knock the opponents if you want, but the fact is he was the reason the Irish won most, if not all, of those last second victories they had. It's hard to win a lot of games when your defense is terrible, through no fault of Clausen. Michael Floyd broke his collarbone during the early part of the season and missed several games - Tate stepped up in his absence and is a damn good WR. Floyd was better, but for some reason Floyd was never the same after he came back from injury. In reality, Clausen was working with 1 good WR, 1 good TE (got banged up near end of season), a decent o-line and crappy RBs. All fair points - Clausen brought a lot of it on himself through his introduction to ND (hummer limo) and promise of championships. McShay is on him for his attitude too, saying he wasn't that great of a leader in the lockerroom because of his attitude.
I watched a lot of Notre Dame games, I used to have a casual interest in their football program, maybe I was reading things wrong but it seemed like Clausen made some really poor decisions in the clutch. Clausen always rubbed me the wrong way, I've known about him since his days at Oaks Christian or whatever high school it was. They came into my town to play the local team and it was like "This Clausen kid is the next big thing" I'm just saying that he's got some ability, but his attitude could get him in some pretty deep **** real quickly at the next level.
He may or may not become Brees, but it is valid comparison. Neither have super strong arms, but they are very accurate.
I never liked Chris Simms......but keep on generalizing..... I will own this topic when Colt gets to the NFL. DD
and if Colt McCoy ever throws 30 TD passes in 1 NFL regular season I will officially eat an entire UT jersey covered in BBQ sauce.
Colt will be lucky to be in the league for more than a couple of years. A nerve injury in your throwing arm (which wasnt that strong to begin with) is not a good sign. Also, I don't think he's a great decision maker. Great college qb in a very flattering system is he the guy that told you v-gina was going to be a good nba player too? back to topic: Sam has a great arm but i wonder about his durability. While I despise Clausen's d-bags ways, he has been pretty good. ANd even though someone discounted the pro style offense experience...it's hard to evaluate guys like bradford and colt when they rarelytake a snap from under center. Reading the defense while dropping back is much different than at a standstill.
Real talk broham what the hell is up with your love of scrubs and unproven talent? I have NEVER in my life read a more delusional poster...not even Basso is on your level of insanity. Go make games.
