Yes, I'm just annoyed at all the posters here who dream up ridiculously lop-sided trade scenarios.

It's clear that the Pacers and Rockets aren't suitable trading partners for each other.

6'10 guys who can handle the ball, dish it out, guard multiple positions, and can produce as a second option are very rare. Being 24 and cheap only adds to his value. No need to knock the guy.

    D.Granger and B.Hansbrough for C.Aldrich P.Patterson and T.Douglas works.

    So does D.Granger and G.Green for C.Aldrich, P.Patterson, T.Douglas and C.Delfino.

Throw them a couple 2nd rounders with the 2nd trade i suggested and i'm sure they'd bite, with saving 14 mill next season.

I like Parsons, and would prefer him to remain a part of our team. I also think he provides a lot of value for our team outside of the court in being the longest tenured rocket and part of our current core group while being a great personality. People understate the importance of team chemistry and culture, and I'd prefer to see us develop an identity rather than becoming a ship of mercenaries for hire. Parsons has been and should continue to be an important part of that development.

I'm not trying to diss him, I'm being realistic. People here see him as having seemingly limitless upside.

i have to disagree. We need another player to build around and a 30 yr old Granger on the decline isn't that guy.

I'm assuming we'd have to give up Parsons and i think we can do better.

You are the one who is not being realistic about (1) Granger's value and (2) Morey's methods.

You don't get much for highly paid not-quite-elite players nowadays. Just look at the Rudy Gay deal. Also, Morey's modus operandi is to make what others consider low ball offers and stick to his guns in terms of maximum amount offered. Just see what he did with the Dwight Howard deal-- Orlando wanted more than Morey was offering and Morey walked away.

    You're a goose.

Iguodala has a $15m player option which he will exercise rather than taking $10-11m.

    Stopped reading at that point...

I wouldn't include Parsons in a trade for Granger, and I don't believe Morey would either.

I'm just saying if I'm the Pacers GM I would want one of Asik or Parsons included in a deal for Granger, otherwise I would decline.

The Indiana Pacers are still awful offensively and struggle to find consistency with outside shooting and scoring. Granger provides them all of that in spades.

I'd also be considering the fact that my squad did well against the Heat in the last play-offs series and have gone 2-0 against them in this year's regular. The addition of Granger with the development of George and the team defense may be enough firepower to beat them in the play-offs.

I know that his trade value is at an all-time low because he's been injured and has a lot of question marks. Do I want to rebuild for the future around George immediately, or can I make one last play-offs push while holding onto Granger until the end of the season with the expectation that his play will improve his value?

I don't think Granger possesses that much trade value either, Rudy Gay is a pretty good litmus test but the organisations are run differently and while it was obvious that Gay didn't fit in the Grizzlies, Granger's position with the Pacers is less obvious, they still have flaws that he clearly fulfills.

Another poster here brought up a lot of good points about why they would want to, and after reading them I think a scenario without Parsons is more plausible than I initially thought.

The Pacers organisation may be looking for more flexibility and might actually be genuinely interested in saving cash for the upcoming FA class and returning younger, cheaper assets to rebuild around George and Hibbert.

Well, they're not, but they kind of are as well!!

At the end of this season, they have $49m in committed salary, with no starting or backup PF, and no backup PG, AND $7.5m tied up in Gerald Green/ Mahinmi.

The future of their franchise is in George and Hibbert (mainly because they paid him), and George has not yet received his max contract, so whatever monies they spend to address their issues at PF and PG will be going straight to the 'waistline' when they pay George the following season.

If they ditch Granger and a bad contract (or 2?) on us [Green/ Mahinmi are the bad ones) then they retain their core for this season, AND can take back expirings which could move them down to around $30m in committed salary.
This then allows them to re-sign West, and so keep their core together, and we've given them cheap contract backups for the next season or so.

    __

I argued prior to this season that it made sense for OKC to trade Harden (after they signed Ibaka) because they didn't need an all-star coming off the bench, they just needed some kind of 'offensive spark'. I also argued that our assets (draft picks) were perfect for them so they could use these as low salary backups to fill out their rotation.

    __

I think the same principle applies to the Pacers. They have their core, if they want to retain it (ie, keep West beyond next year) then we have the perfect peices to help them make a run to the ECF this season.

We're doing them a favour in this deal since they have a max contract player who plays the same position as their franchise player - in effect we give him even more of a supporting cast to make a deep playoff run!

Basically, the Rockets and Pacers aren't a good fit as trading partners.

I don't think Morey blows his load for Granger and trades one of our core.

The Pacers don't have a need for our PFs when they have Hibbert, West, Mahinmi and Hansbrough already. They want valuable assets and outside shooting. We could offer Delfino but there's nothing else we have that they need, unless they really are desperate for flexiblity and money and think they can flip our tweeners for more picks in the summer.

Who is a good fit with Indy for a Granger trade and what would they offer?

Indy needs a future PF because West is getting older (and a FA) and the other PFs they have suck. Indy also needs a backup PG (Augustin sucks) and better long range shooting overall. Indy also can use cap room for 2013 to make one more "splash" because a Paul George extension and resigning David West will take them out of 2014 FA signing even with Granger expiring.

For those that are willing to trade Parsons away, I posted this in another thread:

I think perhaps, Parsons is extremely undervalued and not just talking about his contract.

This is why they ought to ditch Granger!

If he plays, he cannot guard 2s, which means they get stuck with Paul on Wade and Granger on James. That's less than ideal for them - surely they want Paul on James??
But Granger cannot guard Wade, so he'd have to slide to the 4 and guard either of Bosh or Haslem.
This is all well and good - however it takes either of Hibbert or West out of the game. And the mismatch of the big man on the bad Heat big man defender was how Indiana won the recent game against the Heat! To play Granger nullifies their size advantage!

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on Granger here, but they have a superior player who plays exactly the same position, and it truly makes him expendable....

What they want is depth and talent to surround George, and the flexibility to keep their current squad together.

    Good post.

I actually said that I believe Granger would be traded and felt he could be our guy before all of this happened

    http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=233144

The thing is I don't understand why the Pacers would want to trade him for future flexibility now when they can do so in the summer.

The Luxury tax is $70M and they have $48M committed with a $5M QO for Harlsbrough who would be their back-up PF.

As for their back-up PG and starting PF situation,

The upcoming FA class is deep for both. I think fair market value for David West would be around $10M per and MMLE-MLE for a back-up PG.

Basically they could reload their roster if they wanted to without exceeding luxury tax and then opt to trade Granger when his trade value should be higher (right now it's rock bottom).

Although I suppose trading for a back-up PG, PF and assets now is a low-risk move and provides stability for the future, it also means they've resigned to being less competitive for a championship this season. I'm not particularly familiar with how Pacers management operate but they've always seemed to be quite conservative, I don't think Granger gets dealt before the February deadline though.

If they do, maybe a package of one of our rotation forwards, a rookie forward and Douglas.

Or Delfino, Jones, Beverley and a pick.

I'm an idiot please ignore what I wrote about QO I got confused.

And DrNuegebauer and Carl I think you guys are on the money.

Currrently there aren't a lot of ideal trading partners, there's a lot of risk for them to hold onto Granger's contract EOY and it's obvious that both Granger and George are suited to play SF.

It's similar to the Monta situation in GSW where the fans hated management for the trade, but a year removed from the trade have all but forgotten about him and GSW have become much better without him.

Though Monta isn't on the same level as Granger.

I actually feel like a trade for Granger will go through.

granger will be a great backup to parsons. i guess if hondo can come off the bench and still be an all star then granger can at least be that spark until he is ready to sign somewhere else in the off season.
