I knew there was no way Ostertag would sign for the minimum. Glad to hear we tried. Funny that he's concerned with playing time. How many people at his age would choose to be paid less to work more?! :)

Bidding with what? Daniels received the MLE. Cube's 6-shooter was shot.

GO, bid on by the Rox, but goes elsewhere. The best of both worlds. Trying to make something happened and winding up withOUT 'tag.

I think his real motivation is that he can get paid to conitnue sitting on the bench behind Miller instead of earning his keep in Houston where he for sure would have to put in playing time. His career is in the toilets and he doesn't want to be exposed. He wants to ride for free as long as he can.

I honestly don't see why people could criticize a 1-year deal for Ostertag at full MLE. Sure, he's probably not worth it, but who else are we going to use it for? There are no more PG out there who's worth the MLE, and it seems the Rockets want to get their PG thru the TE anyway.

The guy is certainly not the long term answer, but he makes all the sense in the world for ONE year. His contract comes off the books next year, and the Rockets can use the money elsewhere if they want.

You're right. I forgot CWebb is a lead pipe cinch to miss significant playing time.

Yeah. I'd have loved Ostertag as our back up center. Can you imagine how tiring it would be on opposing centers or their platoons to have 300 pounds of Yao leaning on them all game and then when he comes out they've got 7'2 300 pounds of Ostertag coming in? It'd have been a beautiful thing.

Agreed! Very perplexing. He would have gotten the same minutes here as he will in Sac.

Interesting that WE offered MORE than 4M to Ostertag? I would assume it would be a 2yr deal. That's what Ostertag got. Anymore than that and it would be ridiculous.

Hey, what can you do? I've heard some people apparently think southern California is a decent place to live.

I just remember Ostertag committing an ill-timed foul, and the TV camera cut to Jerry Sloan. Sloan said, not with anger or frustration, more matter-of-fact, "dumb son of a b****." I loved that.

Nice how we offerred him what-would-appear-to-be $4 mil plus and two years. Can you imagine JVG dealing with him?

I remember that game when they had the camera on Osterfat and he was rolling his false teeth around his mouth, full view of the camera. The announcers were half-laughing: "I did not need to see that."

Yeah-- that is weird. Miller has a lot more stamina than Yao.

Maybe players are being cautious about playing here because they know it's gonna be Yao and TMac's team. Maybe they felt that it's going to be like Shaq and Kobe show and there will be complication.

People ain't going to sign with Houston until Yao and TMac play together for one whole season and prove they could win.

Maybe not cheap but maybe ain't bright enought to sell the idea to players to come and play here. I don't think he have the respects from players like other GM out there.

No way he's going to sell the idea to Ostertag saying you'll be playing backup to Yao and in the shadow of Yao. Championships sometime doesn't mean a thing if you hardly contribute for the team.

Obviously Ostertag will be starting as Centre since Divac left teh team.

Right, alot of you Utah haters wouldn't be saying that if we've landed Ostertag. A Championship team is what we're trying to accomplish here and not just trying to satisfied every bitter fans.

R2K, we forgive you. I'm sure you just forgot to turn your sarcasm detector on. Or was it broken? Wait, I thought you were the one who sold sarcasm detectors here. :D
