The salary cap is the root of all evil. As for the amount of money a max makes, it's the market that decides. There were days Pro basketball players that only made a little more than average joe, and the game wasnt more fun than today. Imagine for a sec, that NBA average salary decreases to a point that a max player makes a couple million and salary cap is removed. You think that price will stay before all teams bid all they can to get star players? Eventually, the max price will go back up to what it is now, and cap will be topped to prevent ego-sharks like Cuban from ruining the game. Now follow me and say D-o-l-l-a-r-Z
First, thank you for the nice compliment. Secondly, I'd like to thank aelliott and NIKEstrad...they provided patience and insight as I was stumbling thru the CBA darkness. Lastly...Gooden? I've been so focused on LeBron I must have missed it.
I tell ya what, why don't you go to your boss and ask for a 50% pay cut. I mean, if everybody in your company did that, then productivity would increase and then your boss will be able to hire more workers and reduce the unemployment. I mean even with 50% of your current salary, you still make more than 95% of the worlds population, you still are one of the richest people in the world. Why not take a pay cut for the good of humanity?
The Rockets won't see any "potential" salary cap flexibility until after the 09/10 season when Tmac's contract comes off the books. Alston's deal ends then as well and currently we would only have Yao and Battier on the books. One could make the case that Morey will try to only take on contracts over the next few years that don't go too far past that mark so that gives the Rockets another chance after Tmac's deal ends to be under the cap to sign a top dollar FA to pair with Yao for a 2nd run.
I could see that happening, or I could see him trading Tmac this off season. I guess it depends on whether they still believe the Tmac & Yao combo can win together. DD
I think they can. And I believe they can. It's much harder to get star players than solid role players. We have 2 star players. They might not be "superstar" players, but they are upper teir star players. Our problem is we haven't rounded out the roster. Just need to fill some holes and be creative. The big problem is to really fill those holes we probably have to take on salary (contract years) and that would go against keeping the contracts short for a "post-Tmac" Yao run. The only other solution is using the draft as that is a relatively cheap way of adding high value talent. I guess we will find out Morey's long term goals with the contract years we take on this summer.
I wonder what Les' profit margin is. Why ask the players to make less so that Les can maintain his profit margins from a monopoly subsidized through coercion of our city's taxpayers. I'm a capitalist, so I don't blame Les for making all he can, but why ask the players to do less. I've got the feeling Les could go into Luxury Tax Land and still maintain a monstrous profit. The way I see it, to get to a championship before Tracy's contract runs out Les can do 2 things: Trade T-Mac or Yao or sign a free agent and pay the Lux taxes.
