Probably. But I wouldn't want to try to teach people with their butts hanging out. What kind of learning environment is that?

first of all the butts hanging out is an exaggeration, and I'm sure that some people thought the same thing about afros and long hair.

It wasn't an exaggeration. The pants are baggy standing up but when they bend down it's the ass crack show. Girls would also have their thongs showing all the time too. That's different from an afro unless it is blocking the person's view behind them. We are pretty liberal people. She didn't really enforce dress code unless she really felt she had too (too much work), but she hated seeing her students asses. Trust me, I heard about it all the time.

This is just stupid, if you want to dress a certain way that isn't overly indecent then go for it. I don't find this overly indecent and it is something that most people who do it grow out of it eventually. Hell, Atlanta has a proposed ordinance where a girl's bra strap can't be seen in public on the agenda. Boy, I sure am glad these Louisiana towns and Atlanta have all their other problems solved so that now they can act like fashion police.

I'm fine with this, but I'd also like outlaw old, white guys from wearing golf shorts anywhere else besides a golf course. Just stop...

The laws are unconstitutional and should be struck down, but as a self-respecting black person under 30 I'm pretty glad public officials are at least "speaking out" against this manner of dress. Sometimes when I see whites applauding, mimicking or tolerating immature and undignified behaviour in blacks, I worry that it's because they expect so little out of us: socially, morally, intellectually.

Post Civil Rights Era blacks emulating prison culture wholesale, then wondering how in the world racial profiling happens.

Because you emulate a certain culture or sect you should expect repercussions?

Good question, but I don't see it as a repercussion. It's a reasonable treatment, by people uniquely responsible for the prevention of destructive and dangerous acts of known members of that sect, of a person who knowingly emulates a member of that sect with which he or she already has a disproportionate demographic correlation.

So you feel it's good that whites expect less of us? It would be easier to address your point if you weren't so *****rdly with your words.

It was from my original post, in which I hypothesized that whites tolerated poor behaviour and sloppy appearance from blacks because they don't expect any better from us. Rocket River chose to respond - for the second time today - with the same irrelevant, cheap-shot reference to a previous thread, so I just lost patience with him.

At least this time he didn't call me Amos or Andy because I'm polite to waitstaff at restaurants, or accuse me of not sympathizing with Rodney King, or compare me to some racist black character from a cartoon ("Ruckus" from Boondocks).

I wouldn't hire the person. Hopefully that person learns that they're going to have to do better in order to get a decent job.

That doesn't mean it isn't a stupid law. It's legislating how people think and that is simply wrong. Besiedes, you, the extreme righty that you are want more gov't interference? Do the police not have better things to do than to worry about what people are wearing?
