Sage Rosenfels? Really? I hope those in favor do realize that it is WEEK 12.

    Just go with Yates.

No one fresh off of the couch, or from a different team is going step in and produce.

    He is a known commodity.

    5th round pick.
Rookie QB in a system where the QB is required to be very knowledgeable in the offense
3rd string QB with likely no practice time with 1st stringers until now
Short training camp to understand the offense

Long term potential, Yates is unknown. Short term potential. He's 99.99% likely to be not good.

I did like the part where Yates said he studied matt schaub back in college because they were going to run the Texans offense.=)

Being drafted in the 5th round doesn't make you a known commodity (Schaub was drafted in the 3rd) and I call BS on the 99.99% junk. The only thing that makes you a known commodity is to play in an NFL game.

    This board is so dramatic.

What exactly is wrong with bringing in Sage as a backup, seeing what Yates can do over the next couple of games while Sage gets in shape, and re-evaluating to see who gives us the best chance to win a playoff game?

This is exactly what I'd like to see happen. TJ deserves a shot, and it would be great if we didn't have to use Sage at all.

I hope that training camp next year is full of controversy over who our starting QB will be, Schaub or Yates =)

The arguments were similar with Kyle Orton, and again half the posters don't seem to get it despite what we just saw Sunday.

Leinart was always a better starting option than Orton. Orton was going to be a fantastic safety net.

Now we're on to Yates. Even if Sage is brought in, Yates should start against the Falcons. He's up to speed, he knows the playbook, he's had some reps, he's in playing condition. He did a passable job against the Jags in a surprise push into duty.

What's critical for folks to understand is: look at what's behind Yates. Kellen Failtime Clemens (career QBR 60). Brodie DisasterMaster Croyle (career QBR: 68)
Neither of these scrapheap guys could make a roster this year for good reason. Neither of them have spent time in Kubiak's system or thrown to Johnson or OD.

Sage was an 84-QBR guy with us, and that was 19 games in a system where we were highly depend on the QB making big plays.

It is insane for anyone to think Sage isn't a good guy to bring into the fold, pending his physical.

Take if for what it's worth, but a buddy of mine who works at 610 says the Texans aren't interested in bringing back Sage at all and are willing to give the reigns to TJ for the rest of the season.

I hear there are still some bad feelings between Sage and the Texans stemming from when he left here.

    I agree.
    I think the rosencopter play
    was a guy . . . desperate to MAKE A PLAY
to get a shot at a starting job.
[Which he never got his whole time in Houston.
Texans don't do QB competition they assign someone
starter . . and that is it. ]

Rosenfelds showed more on the field than Leinart had
so I think it would be at worse about the same as Leinart

Nah, Sage felt the Texans screwed him around when he wanted to get a starting opportunity somewhere in the NFL. Supposedly tipped the Giants on the Texans playcalling when he was the backup there.
