Hopefully Saddam's capture will be the first step in Peace finally coming to the Iraqi people and our troops a little closer to coming home!

I can certainly join McMark in this remark.

I can also say that in the abstract that it is good to bring a criminal to justice, despite my reservations that this will just encourage the warmongerers in the Bush administration to continue with their ways.

Great news with broad ranging implications in terms of morale, closure for the Iraqi people, justice, boost to the financial markets, and momentum for the US-led mission.

It is a shame that the liberals can not take one day to celebrate the capture of one of the most horrible people in the history of the world. What I have seen in this thread not only by glynch, but from the other cast of liberals is sickening. This man who has killed and tortured so many is being brought to justice. This is a day of celebration. Instead, the liberals choose to take swipes at our servicemen and question the motives for the war. PATHETIC. Keep it up, liberals, you are just further isolating yourselves from the rest of the country's mindset.

Cohen - I think Sane and later fba34 have a good point. Do you really think those who believe in an American conspiracy will trust DNA proof, especially with the look-alikes running around? I admit that was the first question that popped into my head when I heard the announcement: "Is it one of the look-alikes"?

And even the President acknowledged that this may not mean an end to hostilities in Iraq. I wish it were true - all those Baathists giving up - but it's probably not. How sad.

I don't expect conspiracy theorists to believe that the earth is round. Doesn't mean that I won't criticize them for it.

Only 2 or 3 here. Why paint with such a broad brush?

I'm just afraid that this will by no means mean an end to terrorist attacks in Iraq and elsewhere. It is a wonderful success, but the war against terror is far from being won yet.

Also, agree with Cohen that I have only seen 2 posters who seem to be unhappy with the news.

Good News (yes) - will it change anything probably not from the looks of him, I doubt he was running much of anything. He looks like a bearded Golum who has been in a basement for months. I wonder if was just caught completely off guard (thus no fight like his sons) or if he was just a coward. Nice news bit now it's time for football. :)

Unbelievable. Honestly, I didn't think this day would ever come. I'm so glad I was wrong.

How can anyone (besides glynch and sane) not be happy about this? I'm so happy for the people of Iraq. I can't imagine what they are feeling right now. And our brave troops who have given so much over there. To say that this is a morale boost for them would be a huge understatement.

It's what he does. I was going to post my "yeah, we got him!" post, but then I saw glynch's first post and I already knew what this thread was gonna devolve into.

I believe Saddam could have been a great leader for Iraq, but he choose to give in to greed. He reminds me somewhat of Napoleon ... just not as sucessful of course.

Now for his sons, they were pure evil. Before the war in Iraq, I never truly feared Saddam .. he was a menance, but he knew his boundries. It was his sons I feared. Even though this is all about 'weapons of mass destruction', blah blah blah, I believe a large untold portion of this war is to prevent his sons from becoming in full power. Im glad they are dead!

Couldn't agree more. I'm not gonna let my politics get in the way of this today. That's up for tomorrow's schedule. Let's just enjoy the fact that we got the SOB today.

Two great reasons to celebrate. This may not entirely stop the violence over there, but at least the people there can celebrate and the military we sent there can at least gather some pride that their work isn't in vain. I still hope we can pull those guys out of there as quickly as possible.

Baghdad - Iraq's former deputy prime minister Tareq Aziz, in American custody for seven months, helped to confirm the identity of Saddam Hussein after his capture, an official with the US-led administration said on Sunday.

"He was identified with the help of Tareq Aziz," the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Reuters. He did not elaborate.........

..............Members of Iraq's U.S.-backed Governing Council were taken to see Saddam Hussein in U.S. custody on Sunday and confirmed his identity, prominent Council member Adnan Pachachi told a news conference.

"He seemed rather tired and haggard but he was unrepentant and defiant at times," said Pachachi, who was foreign minister before Saddam's Ba'ath party took power in 1968.

"He tried to justify his crimes one way or another and said that he was a just but firm ruler," the former foreign minister said. "Our answer was that he was an unjust ruler because his crimes were responsible for the deaths of thousands of people."..........

He personally committed his first murder when he was 19 and many more afterwards. Not sure how that ever qualified him to become a great leader.

I just saw that the US wants to put him on trial publicly in Iraq. This may give the Iraqi people a chance to confront him for the first time. I hope this is true.

This will make the Nuremberg Trials look like a day at traffic court.

They were at the same time we were. Afterwards they didn't sell him anything that broke any violations.

I'll say: I hope if there are WMD's that we do find them. I'll say that's great that we can eliminate some WMD's. What's your point?

You don't really believe that liberals want to let WMD's run around loose do you?

It's helpful in a battel to know your enemy. I'm not sure that you know too much about the liberals.

This is the deathblow to Dean's campaign... Say Goodnight Irene...

Trader_Jorge is absolutely correct.. If you can stomach it.. have a look at

    http://www.democraticunderground.net/discuss

The Liberals despise America, our President, and our Troops in the field... They are an embarrassment, thankfully they are a very small minority now that like a little Chihuahua, they can bark but have little bite..
