The only thing I'd be worried about is the volume of the music.

    Simple Together - Alanis Morssette

You've been my golden best friend
    Now with post-demise at hand
I can't go to you for consolation
Cause we're off limits during this transition

    This grief overwhelms me
    It burns in my stomach
And I can't stop on bumping into things

I thought we'd be simple together
I thought we'd be happy together
I thought we'd be limitless together
I thought we'd be precious together
    But I was sadly mistaken

You've been my soul mate and then some
I remembered you the moment I met you
With you I knew god's face was handsome
With you I saw fun and expansion

    This loss is numbing me
    It pierces my chest
And I can't stop dropping everything

I thought we'd be sexy together
I thought we'd be evolving together
I thought we'd have children together
I thought we'd be family together
    But I was sadly mistaken

If I had a bill for all the philosophies I shared
If I had a penny for all the possibilities I presented
If I had a dime for every hand thrown up in the air
My wealth would render this no less severe

I thought we'd be genius together
I thought we'd be healing together
I thought we'd be growing together
I thought we'd be adventurous together
    But I was sadly mistaken

I thought we'd be exploring together
I thought we'd be inspired together
I thought we'd be flying together
I thought we'd be on fire together
    But I was sadly mistaken

Phil Collins - Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now)

How can I just let you walk away, just let you leave without a trace
You're the only one who really knew me at all

How can you just walk away from me, when all I can do is watch you leave
'Cos we've shared the laughter and the pain, and even shared the tears
You're the only one who really knew me at all

So take a look at me now, 'cos there's just an empty space
And there's nothing left here to remind me, just the memory of your face
Take a look at me now, 'cos there's just an empty space
And you coming back to me is against all odds and that's what I've got to face

I wish I could just make you turn around, turn around and see me cry
There's so much I need to say to you, so many reasons why
You're the only one who really knew me at all

So take a look at me now, 'cos there's just an empty space
And there's nothing left here to remind me, just the memory of your face
Take a look at me now, 'cos there's just an empty space
But to wait for you, well that's all I can do and that's what I've got to face
Take a good look at me now, 'cos I'll still be standing here
And you coming back to me is against all odds
That's the chance I've got to take, oh, oho

Just take a look at me now

Or you can go to this site which has the Alanis Morissette Random Lyric Generator to write your own Alanis Morissette sad song......
    http://www.brunching.com/alanislyrics.html

Here is one I made about the Utah Jazz:

    "I Think"

I Think floppers are really a huge problem
I Think whiners are too much on my mind
I Think elbows have got a lot to do with why the world sucks
    But what can you do?

Like a Rocket Red rain, beating down on me
Like a George Clinton line, which won't let go of my brain
Like Jennifer Lopez's ass, it is in my head
    Blame it on Utah Jazz
    Blame it on Utah Jazz
    Blame it on Utah Jazz

I Think short shorts are gonna drive us all crazy
And fouls make me feel like a child
I Think losers will eventually be the downfall of civilization
But what can you do? I said what can you do?

Like a Rocket Red rain, beating down on me
Like a George Clinton line, which won't let go of my brain
Like Jennifer Lopez's ass, it is in my head
    Blame it on Utah Jazz
    Blame it on Utah Jazz
    Blame it on Utah Jazz

Like a Rocket Red rain, beating down on me
Like Jennifer Lopez's smile, cruel and cold
Like George Clinton's ass, it is in my head
    Blame it on Utah Jazz
    Blame it on Utah Jazz
    Blame it on Utah Jazz

    :(

Awesome site! Here's my ode to the bane of my existence --- cat pee.

    "Why"

    Puddles, kitty litter, cats
    Why God, Why?
    Kitty litter, odors, cat pee
    Why God, Why?

What have I done to deserve this Green horror?
Surrounded on all sides with the Hell of cat pee
Like a Walt Whitman character, I'm wordy and alone
    Why God, Why?

    Water, puddles, paper towels
    Why God, Why?
    Cat pee, paper towels, cats
    Why God, Why?

What have I done to deserve this Green disaster that is my life?
Surrounded on all sides with the Hell of cat pee
Like a Walt Whitman character, I'm wordy and alone
    Why God, Why?

What have I done to deserve this Green misery?
Surrounded on all sides with the Hell of cat pee
Like a Walt Whitman character, I'm wordy and alone
    Why God, Why?

    Why God, Why?
    Why God, Why?
    Why God, Why?
    Why God, Why?

    John Lennon - Mother

Mother, you had me but I never had you,
I wanted you but you didn't want me,
So I got to tell you,
    Goodbye, goodbye.
Father, you left me but I never left you,
I needed you but you didn't need me,
So I got to tell you,
    Goodbye, goodbye.
Children, don't do what I have done,
I couldn't walk and I tried to run,
So I got to tell you,
    Goodbye, goodbye.
    Mama don't go,
    Daddy come home.
    Mama don't go,
    Daddy come home.
    Mama don't go,
    Daddy come home.
    Mama don't go,
    Daddy come home.
    Mama don't go,
    Daddy come home.
    Mama don't go,
    Daddy come home.
    Mama don't go,
    Daddy come home...

    or...

John Lennon - My Mummy's Dead

    My mummy's dead,
I can't get it through my head,
Though it's been so many years,
    My mummy's dead,
    It's hard to explain,
    So much pain,
    I could never show it,
    My mummy's dead.

Here are some that come to mind:

PM Dawn "To Love Me More" from 1993.
Prince "Purple Rain" from 1984 and "Pop Life" from 1987.
Another sad one is George Michael's "One More Try" which was released on the Faith album.

Someone was asking about a sad hip hop song, "Song Cry" by Jay-Z from 2001.

A nice and sad classical piece would be Samuel Barber's "Adagio For Strings". That was composed in 1936.

Towne Van Zandt's "Marie." Willie does a cover that's damn hard to listen to. I'll also nominate two songs that I don't have lyrics for - Ted Hawkins' "Sorry Your Sick" and "The Lost Ones." If you like somewhat obscure blues artists, give Hawkins a try.

    Marie by Townes Van Zandt

I stood in line and left my name
took about six hours or so
Well, the man just grinned like it was all a game
    said they'd let me know
I put in my time till the Pocono line
    shut down two years ago
I was staying at the mission till I met Marie
now I can't stay there no more

Fella 'cross town said he's lookin' for a man
to move some old cars around
maybe me and Marie could find a burned-out
van and do a little settlin' down
Aw, but I'm just dreamin', I ain't got no ride
and the junkyard's a pretty good ways
that job's about a half week old besides
    it'd be gone now anyway

Unemployment said I got no more checks
and they showed me to the hall
my brother died in Georgia some time ago
I got no one left to call
Summer wasn't bad below the bridge
a little short on food that's all
Now I gotta get Marie some kind of coat
    we're headed down into fall

I used to play the mouth harp pretty good
    hustled up a little dough
but I got drunk and I woke up rolled
    a couple of months ago
they got my harp and they got my dollar
them low life so and so's
harps cost money and I ain't got it
it's my own fault I suppose

The Pocono's down but the Chesapeak's runnin'
    two freights everyday
if it was just me I'd be headed south
but Marie can't catch no train
She's got some pain and she thinks it's a baby,
says we gotta wait and see
in my heart I know it's a little boy
hope he don't end up like me

Well, the man's still grinnin' says he lost my file
I gotta stand in line again
I want to kill him but I just say no
I had enough of that line my friend
I head back to the bridge, its getting kinda cold
I'm feelin' too low down to lie
I guess I'll just tell Marie the truth
hope she don't break down and cry

Marie she didn't wake up this morning
    she didn't even try
she just rolled over and went to heaven
    my little boy safe inside
I laid them in the sun where somebody'd find them
caught a Chesapeak on the fly
Marie will know I'm headed south
so's to meet me by and by

Marie will know I'm headed south
so to meet me by and by

I also did the Alanis generator and got some funny stuff. However, most of what I filled in would ge bleeped so no point in sharing it here.

You want sad songs? Listen to Lou Reed's album "Berlin". A great album and very sad indeed.
The last song on it is titled "Sad Song".

Pretty much every song on Adore by the Pumpkins has a sad feeling to them.

"To Sheila" and "For Martha" are my two favorite songs on that album...
