The Maloofs, unfortunately, were a flash in the pan. Young and undisciplined, looking for quick fixes and temporary solutions once they fell out of contention. Very volatle and quick to change courses. Their youth, inexperience, and lack of discipline has betrayed them.
The Maloofs inherited their money and got caught up in the real estate and development boom and lost a lot of money. They need the Kings to make money rather than be a hobby.
Plum stupid. Wonder what Stern will do here since he took the bull by the horns in New Orleans? They'd be better off to go back to KC or Seattle or a myriad of other places. Just stupid.
Oh really, George?? I'm sure FAR more people say that about you than they have ever said about Kevin Johnson. Scumbags.
The NBA needs to offer to buy back the Kings like they did the Hornets. Even an evil Stern is better than these idiot Maloofs.
Bill Simmons @sportsguy33 1. That Kings/Virginia Beach rumor has been floating around for a solid month. Being floated from Va. Beach's side. It's just not true. Retweeted by Sam Amick
I bet these reporters can replace "Dwight Howard" with "Virginia Beach", and just recycle their old articles from the last 3 months. This is like deja vu all over again.
Virginia Beach? They don't even have a stadium- the town rejected a proposal to build one when the Hornets tried to move them there. Virginia's a pretty populous state, but it's a little too spread out, and it's sandwiched in between Bobcats country and Wizard's territory.
I actually lived out there for a good bit of my childhood (father was a physician in the navy). Hampton Roads is an interesting aggregate of ~7 city-suburbs, none of which are much on their own, but all together represent one of the 4 population centers of VA. Norfolk is the closest thing to an urban center. VA Beach would be a horrible place to put an arena, since any team will be drawing from the entire region, and the traffic infrastructure isn't there. Concerts at the amphitheater there are always a clusterf*** before and after. And yes, these rumors absolutely came from VA's end. They are desperate to attract a major league franchise to town and raise their stature. As mentioned, they made a play for the Hornets when Shinn had a standoff with Charlotte, they also made a play for an NHL squad a while back, and even tried to get the Expos. They have to know that they aren't going to lure the Kings (Maloofs are determined to stay near their LA home). This is just a way to advertise themselves as an interested party and put their name out there. Having said all that, I can also say as a former resident that Hampton Roads would flop horribly. There's no way they would be able to support a pro team long term. There's no serious corporate base to sustain it.
Good grief... I am not going to watch a dang VA Beach team. Dear lord, please let them trade Chuck to a better organization (HOU). Thank you.
