I appreciate the writer's desire to wed Rox with a guard, but exactly who or what does he expect will get any of these deals done? Frankly I would prefer to go to the Lottery than put a band-aid on this squad, one which would keep from making 'the next step' next season, and the one after.
Houston trades: SF Clarence Weatherspoon (2.1 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 0.2 apg in 7.8 minutes) First-round pick in 2005 Houston receives: PG Sam Cassell (15.3 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 6.0 apg in 29.4 minutes) Change in team outlook: +13.2 ppg, +1.0 rpg, and +5.8 apg. Minnesota trades: PG Sam Cassell (15.3 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 6.0 apg in 29.4 minutes) Minnesota receives: SF Clarence Weatherspoon (2.1 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 0.2 apg in 7.8 minutes) First-round pick in 2005 Change in team outlook: -13.2 ppg, -1.0 rpg, and -5.8 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED Due to Houston and Minnesota being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Houston and Minnesota had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
the only trade i'm intersted in right now if getting rid of mo or ho. we can sign a PG this summer with a list of: jaric, dickau, watson, AD, damon, bjax, stoudamire, payton, NVE. every PG in the league wants to play for us (except steve and moochie), it's just a matter of putting out the money for one.

Out of the above list, Payton is the only one that i consider a realistic, or even a Viable Option. mainly due to his contract, and the length of it!

It seems unlikely the Rockets would throw yet another first round draft pick into a trade, especially with the complete lack of young talent on the roster after Yao and T-Mac. Then, giving away a pick for a one year rental on an aging PG makes even less sense. I don't see the Rockets doing anything radical this season unless a team is willing to settle for a second round pick.
I'm with you Random. I don't want trade away another number one draft pick...where's our youth? But I'd make a deal if we could get Kidd!
A first round pick for Payton would be crazy. Just this summer people were balking at the idea of even trading LUE for Payton.
Sorry, but there is no way the Rocks get Kidd. 3 max contracts for the next 5 years? Les would go broke paying the luxury tax. Cassell is a possibility, but if you were Minn, why would you trade him? With Payton, at least I can understand Boston (a team that is still building) making a trade. In Minn, they are looking at NOW, not the future. Therefore, I can believe that they would really trade Sam. That said, if I had the opportunity, I'd take Sam in a heartbeat. He has fire, and this team could use some fire.
no way Cassell comes here Minny could be giving us the edge to get into the playoff and keep them out
Payton would be the ideal acquisiton, and right in character for the geriatric Rockets of 2005. Seriously tho.. this guy has everything we need from a PG. Still a good defender (even if no longer lock-down mode), a guy who can make the offense work without having to penetrate off the dribble, a guy who has brains and wants to win. I'd love to get him.
The Rockets need a PF who can bang and play defense badly (its no surprise Yao is the only one trying to stop dribble penetration time after time - and picking up fouls - now that Cato is gone). Unfortunately, there really aren't many of those types around that will be traded for the crap we have. Still, before making any stupid move to try and acquire an aging or overpaid PG, they should hold their chips (expiring contracts and draft picks - oh, and Ryan Bowen) to see what kind of PF they can pry away at the deadline. That said, I think they're done dealing this year - all logic would tell you they should make a hard push after Stromile Swift in the offseason.
