I've heard Press has a very contentious relationship with his mom and has essentially cut her off from his life... I remember when they asked the players if they had anything to say on Mother's Day and he just mentioned his wife in an awkward way. He really seems like the type to purposely dog it this season and hold a grudge against the organization for the Hader situation. You can see it in his body language..the Astros are dead to him.
Not going to get angry at his performance. The downfall has begun. Maybe he can bounce back like some relievers do a year later. We will always have 2022! Now it becomes a Sword issue. He can't put him in those high stress situations
that's uhhhhhh ok. lol. still have a job to do. the reason the org went out and grab hader is because the team can already tell he was on the decline. to me he never really had electric stuff. just enough to get guys out. opponents don't really fear him.
Give him some respect... better save percentage than Rivera... 4th in all-time saves for the franchise... 40 straight scoreless appearances when healthy in 2019. He needs a mental reset because it is clearly in his head now. If that does not work, give him the decency of being buried in the H.
Pressly helped this team win a championship. But it’s time. A more respectful gif for Press: So long, partner.
I think a change of scenery would be best for the team and Pressley, love the dude and what he`s has done for us but its time man
Ryan has done a lot for the Astros. Players have down years and players get old. Players also can be upset about a change in their role and it can affect their performance. I think this year's data shows that Ryan needs to be carefully used- a regular schedule, but not in consecutive days. Maybe he will do better if he replaces Montero's current sport- 6-7th inning guy for a while.
Do any of you stat nerds...er, uh....stat experts have a comparison between is stats in the 8th inning vs. the 9th inning? It seems like he's pitched better in true 9th inning save situations lately, but I don't have the stats to back that up. Maybe the problem is that he's just not a setup guy - he's a closer. Of course, if that's the case, the Astros have a problem. 2 closers and no setup guy.
Ryan has been a big part of all that has been achieved over the last few years, and I am a fan. But, with that being said, I think it would be best for him and the team to trade him to a team that is in the hunt and is in need of a closer. We can get a controllable set up man. This gets us closer to the luxury tax threshold and gives Ryan a more defined role that he is used to. Win Win.
Pressly has only pitched the 9th inning 4 times this year. He has given up 1 ER and a .467 OPS over 4 innings. Good results. Much better than the 8th (13 ER in 21 IP and .859 OPS) but not much of a sample size at all.
Pressly won't say it, but he wants to be closer. If Manager Joe wants the Stros to succeed from here on out, closer by committee unless Pressly is unloaded by trade deadline. He is a different pitcher in the 8th and the 9th. Last night, he threw the first pitches to batters, strikes.
