TY I'm eating an Italin mix can't stop to research. But yet I can reply to your post. Different levels of lazy.
Are you saying that fans got mad at the closer after he blew a couple of saves and was pitching poorly for a stretch? Only Astro fans do that right?
I've done a bit poking around of maybe-available setup-type bullpen arms...I noticed a guy from the Pirates who I know nothing about: Dauri Moreta Also Steven Wilson with the Pads, Tyler Rogers with SF...and there are others. Will Smith, as the Tex closer, has inherited 18 runners (this is way high for a closer this year) and allowed 1 to score. That needs to change. And I'm still a bit salty about not resigning him.
No but it's pretty amazing how 8 years of sustained success and 2 World Series titles still bring out the doom and gloom in the first 1/2 of the season so strongly. Do we really still care that Tucker and Bregman get off to bad starts? Do we really still care that we might not be 20 games up in June? Many do. It's borderline f***ing ridiculous at times.
'I've grown tired of player X' type threads in April through early July are just ridiculous. I guess some of these thread starters need more attention in their daily life. This thread is a perfect example. Ryan has a few rough outing and keyboard warrior screams he OS trash. Really the dude just won you the freaking World Series by pitching nearly flawless the entire playoffs. 6 saves in 11 innings 4 hit 3 walks 13Ks 1HBP. Show some respect.
Posted this back when he had the stretch of bad outings. These are his postseason numbers since he's been a closer. 28 IP 0.96 ERA 0.82 WHIP 20/20 closing out wins. What few runs he has given up were strictly cosmetic before he closed it out. He's gonna fail on occasion, everybody does. But if you don't trust this guy in high leverage, maybe you're just an excitable little b**ch who will be worried no matter who is closing.
Mariano Rivera with a lifetime .70 ERA in the postseason. Pressley isn't far off as our closer. Never worried about Ryan when it has mattered most. We are lucky to have him.
Pressly was extremely unlucky. It was just one of those days. Ohtani hit a HR. No news there. Ward hit a single that had a 40% chance of being a hit. Moniak: on 1-2 count he took strike 3 but umpire called it a ball. The next pitch he single that had a 45% chance of being a hit. Escobar: on 1-1 count he took strike 2 but umpire called it a ball. Then he took 3-1 pitch for a strike 2 that should have been a strike out. The next pitch he hit a single that had a 63% chance of being a hit. If any of those go the Astros way they win. It was just one of those games to forget about.
