It was almost certainly a non starter from the beginning. That is, the rumor was false.

I feel like ryan anderson isnt as useless as we think. I would rather have the guy than not have him. Ofcourse if i could trade him for ANYTHING i would, but the guy isnt going to complain about minutes or cause a lockeroom distraction and can be useful in the regular season. Dude can light it up from 3 with the bench squad and get his confidence back. But if we could flip him for another bad contract that fits our defensive identity then im alll all for it. Its just good to remember he will actually be playable in the regular season for the most part

Idk, he seems pretty useless to me...he’s playable for about half of the regular season since he sucks at Toyota Center, and we all know he’s a liability in the playoffs

it would be funny to see someone as useless as Ryno start complaining about minutes or initiate lockerroom drama

it’s just the typical CF hopes and dreams based on no substantial info...time to go back to the Hawks wanting Ryno for Bazemore

IDK, if the Hawks have ever wanted Ryno. I seriously doubt it. They have been wanting to move Bazemore. Nook is a reliable insider. He posted that piece of information, about the Hawks, some time ago.

    Part 2

Now that we understand that it will cost at least two first round picks (and maybe a second or more) to drop Anderson into Sacramento's cap space the next question becomes is it worth it? So let's try th answer that question.

    1. It takes us right out of the luxury tax.

Even if we re-sign Capela at a salary starting at $17 million (highly doubtful) and we use the taxpayer mle, we could be under the tax.....or at the midst be right at or slightly above the tax line.

    Big deal. Who cares?

It is a big deal. Not because of the tax. But because of being able to manage the cap going forward and avoiding a massive REPEATER LUXURY TAX problem like the Thunder currently face.

By the nature of our roster having cp3 on it and his massive salary in year 4 we have to be able to step out of the tax at some point over the next 4 years to avoid that massive repeater tax bill.

Tilman should pay it? He's cheap.

Look, NOBODY HAS PAID IT! Even deep pockets like Prokhorov and Dolan avoided it. By staying close to the luxury tax line and/or by staggering contract expirations so we can tiptoe out of it at some point, either this season, or the next couple seasons, we give ourselves a chance to continue to put a championship contending team on the court as long as we get Harden to stick around and he's healthy. How would you like to win a championship in 2021 and then watch the team totally unwind because were facing the repeater tax and we've got to move out a big piece....or two?

The repeater tax is a primary consideration in roster moves going forward. And therefore the luxury tax and the ability time get out of the luxury tax becomes a primary consideration. This has nothing to do with Fertita. He may be stingy. And he may be a big spender. The repeater tax is specifically designed to be an equalizer from large markets to small markets. There is a reason all owners have avoided it up til now.

Remember this point for later when I discuss OKC trading Melo.

    2. It gives us a $20.5 million TPE. That is if we move Anderson into the Kings cap space without taking any salary back.

(Don't worry about a Bjelica deal until it is signed. Timberwolves still hold his rights and that could turn into a sign and trade very easily. Not to mention the two year guarantee is the same money as two years at the room mle guaranteed. That could actually be a developing trade with Minnesota for shumpert or any number of different things including a multi-year deal. No way of knowing exactly what that is. Side note: Bjelica and Capela share an agent.)

What can be done with a $20.5 million TPE????

    A lot!

Here's one for instance. Let's say the season gets rolling and things break down in Toronto and they decide they want to salvage value before Kawhi walks on them. Remember, they're deep in the luxury tax...in a small market. I think they've paid the tax one time in their existence and it was very low.

So here we sit. We could conceivably trade Eric Gordon, a pick, and another small contract for Kawhi, Green, and Norman Powell. Nice little trade that drops Toronto out of that tax, shakes up their chemistry, and keeps them competitive.

Will that happen?????? I don't know. I doubt it. But.......The point is it's possible. Everything works and if Toronto busts they could look for an escape hatch.

This is just one possibility. Another possibility? We do NOTHING with the TPE this season! We stay out of the tax. And then we take on expiring contracts next season and get a pick back! Or maybe more.

So the net cost is one first round pick to get out of the tax and avoid the luxury tax four years from now. Is that worth it? You can decide for yourself. But that's a logical way of looking at trading Anderson and two picks for nothing.

    Part 3 later

So Ryno + picks to SAC. Use TPE to sign Dirk to a $15mil deal. Just to spite Dallas. Worth it.

You are expecting a NBA team will spend 40 mils to buy a late first round pick?

Even the GM of the Kings is laughing at you now.

So now it seems pretty straight forward if Ryno is going to Sacramento

    Ryno for picks/young talent

Ryno for Shumpert and picks/young talent, which allows Sacramento to go after Bjelica and should cost us less.

Now that the Melo deal is almost certain, basically it sealed the deal for Anderson also, he has to go if Melo will be here otherwise there just won't be enough playing time for him with 20 mils sitting at the end of the bench.

Now the question is really just about how much/many we are going to send to the Kings and how many/much we are getting back.

I doubt the Rox will give up Zhou Qi at this point, and I also doubt the Kings will also take Nene, it will be most likely Anderson plus Chinanu Onuaku for the combination of Koufos and Shumpert.

nothing really to be excited, but if we will only take back 1 Kings player instead of 2, then I will consider that's a huge win for Morey.

Assuming Capela will eventually stay, we are looking at this picture :

    Eric Gordon

    Gerald Green

    James Harden

    Nene Hilario

    De'Anthony Melton

    PJ Tucker

    Clint Capela

    MCW

    James Ennis

    Melo

(above 10 players are guaranteed to be in the 2019 Rox)

Highly possible will stay, but it is not a lock that Jeff Taylor won't get cut after the training camp, Rox done this before.
    Isaiah Hartenstein
    Zhou Qi
    Jeff Taylor

    That means we have 13.

So if we will trade away :
    Chinanu Onuaku (out)
    Ryan Anderson (out)

And it is highly possible to sign him to a 2 way contract :
Vincent Edwards - 2 way contract

That means : taking back 2 Kings players can call it a day.

But if we can only take back 1 and keep some flexibility, its even better.

Actually, I will put MCW in the "may get cut in the training camp" group also.
