Well he's not getting paid max money, that's for sure. But he's getting paid mainly for his spacing and a starter should have more dimensions to his game than that. Just my personal armchair QB opinion. I thought he was getting paid 12 in NOLA, didn't realize it was only 8 so that was mea culpa. If you were to extrapolate that to current cap figures, he probably should be getting paid 12-15 for the same production. Because his individual production is at a career low, I hesitate to say he is earning his paycheck, but a net +5 is nothing to sneer at.

He is hardly one dimensional. He has a good midrange game and a pretty solid post game, but for the purposes of our offense and James Harden, we have taken those other areas away from him for spacing reasons. One dimensional is a player like AB was; 3pt shot and nothing else on either side of the court.

Mid-range I'll give you. He's OK at the post but not this season. He's been awful this year (0.38 ppp, 18 touches) but was OK last year (1.01 ppp, 195 touches).

Sample size. He's rarely in the post and not in a system that is designed to accommodate a post game. The closest we usually get to a post game is the alley oop. :p

Ryno is a nice guy to have. I wish he was signed at about 12-15 million, but it is nice to have a high character guy that fits James like a stripper.

He would become insanely dangerous If we ever figured out how to get a stud like Cousins.

Yes I edited the words "sample size alert" out when I edited my post. Completely agree. He's also not posting up in a traditional offense, again agree.

Question is - does adding a post game (itself usually an inefficient mode of scoring other than as a change-of-pace option) to a mid-range (really only 10-16 feet) and 3 point game and the resultant spacing worth 2/3 of a max deal? I think as long as his net rating is +5 or so you can at least continue to debate it. When (not if, may not be this year but it will happen) that net rating starts to slip, I think most people will agree that his contract is bloated. Still, you often pay a premium to sit at the table come free agent season. You're not going to get bargains on veteran starting bigs that can shoot. Not criticizing Morey (well, I was at the time of his signing), but I think this contract is going to look like an albatross sooner or later.

If that +5 translates to a lot more wins, a happy Harden, and making Houston a much better destination for marque free agents, I would say so. Also, with the cap looking to increase again next year, I don't think it will turn into an albatross contract short of Anderson just completely getting injured for most of the season, which is our worst case scenario IMO. Otherwise, it would look better as the cap rises and subsequent contracts rise.

As a Rockets fan I hope you're right. As a realist I think injuries will limit his effectiveness and his net rating is likely to drop over time.

One dimensional is AB. Anderson can actually do other stuff if we needed him to.

    Shooters tend to age better.

Oh, I agree, AB is all offense - nice try though - Anderson is all shooting, nothing more.

Dmo is a better passer, a better post player, a much better defender, a better PnR player, he is just a better overall player than Anderson.

Again, I can only hope you're right. I think with wings you're correct. I don't know that shooting bigs with injury histories necessarily age better.

Anderson can post up, hit turn arounds, and has a midrange game. Just because you didn't pay attention to him when he was doing it while not on the Rockets doesn't mean he can't.

Dmo is a comparable passer and Anderson is a significantly better PnP player if we are talking about pick players. Then again, there is no point in trying to argue talent assessment with you. The entire CF board knows how those discussions usually end for you.

Absolutely he can. If we need him to shoot, he can shoot, and if we need him to shoot, he can shoot. Also, if we need him to shoot, he can shoot.

Now if we need him to play competent defense, he can't really do that. If we need rebounding from him, he can't really do that, if we need passing/playmaking, he can't really do that......but did I tell you about his shooting?

    You are simply WRONG.

Anderson sucks at posting up, has no lift, no significant post up game to speak of, players easily guard him.

Everything you say is shooting if you are trying to get me to argue he is not a shooter, you are failing miserably, he is a great shooter, nothing more.

If you are working off a popularity contest - then that is no indicator of anything.

THE ONLY risk with Dmo is his back and he has been cleared by the Rockets doctors - and played last year....the back is a Red Herring floated by Morey and the Rockets to keep his price down ala Landry and his knee.

It is negotiations 101, not surprised you missed that.

What exactly does Anderson do here other than shoot?

What exactly does Dmo do other than sit on the sidelines and look pretty?

I hope we can come to terms with the fact that our franchise is in serious trouble if these are the two people who are garnering most of the attention from our fans and local media. Because neither of them are cornerstone type players, they're role players and neither of them deserve this type of attention from the fanbase.

The dude hopes that we can move forward and start an argument over who our second best player really is. But, it seems like we may have to wait on that one for awhile. Smoke on.

He is pretty good at pick-and-pop. His passing is OK only in the sense that he doesn't stop the ball.

It's not a matter of popularity, but the ability to evaluate talent. To put it simply, if my view happens to be opposite of yours, I feel pretty comfortable about it generally. You have a huge tendency to only view things in a vacuum or just being plain wrong but still insisting on sticking with your guns. This is why your views about players are mocked by others.

Anderson has a solid post game. Anyone that has watched him play before know this. It's also funny how you talk about lift considering our very own beloved Scola never had any lift to speak of. Anderson is a very intelligent basketball player. He knows how to get his points inside when he is asked to play that game. For us, we don't need him to do that. We want him to get out of the paint.

You can't just lump fades, turnarounds, leaner, and jump shots into a single shooting category. There are a lot of fundamental differences between them. Both Bev and Ariza can hit a jumper. Neither of them can consistently hit a turnaround, leaner, or fade. Simply put, Anderson is a superior scorer compared to D-Mo, who has never proven consistently he was good or that he can even come back to what he was before his back injury.
