Morey really needs to get us another stretch 4/5 in the offseason for when Anderson inevitably gets injured.

We are not very good when he's out.

Good to hear he's so close to returning, but there's no need to rush it. Especially against Detroit. They're a mess right now and beatable without Anderson.

I think they were undervaluing him 3ven more because dekker was playing so well early on. But as soon as dekker regressed to the mean, and Anderson went out, people were able to assess his value and worth to this team. He's critical, absolutely vital, to having a chance at beating gsw.

at this point it's not so much about winning or losing though. coming back with 4 games remaining is a good stretch to get a little going before entering the playoffs. not only for him but to the rest of the team to actually get a good rhythm going in to next weekend.

Could be a good opportunity to get his stamina and confidence back if he's medically cleared.

Yep, pulling dpoy candidate draymond green out 3 ft beyond the 3pt line is huge when it comes to scoring on those guys.

He is our 2nd highest paid player for a reason. Morey is not dumb

But right now I'm wondering about Ryan Anderson's value given his salary, with the way the team is constructed Ryan Anderson is extremely valuable, but that's also because we have 18M tied to him. Don't get me wrong, his performance has been really good so far but with the team having reached its peak I'm wondering about the different ways for the rox to take the next step, with the rest of the team making such low salaries moving him to make space for a max salary might be an option.

We'll see Anderson's true value in the playoffs, if his shot fails him in the playoffs and his rebs and D sucks then IMHO it might be time to trade him in the offseason and look for better use of that salary.

What is better use for that salary? Lebron james, steph curry? You got me there but given the situation he was DEFINITELY the correct and best move available last offseason.

Dont get too hung up on the number 18 million. Its just a number and its not my money so it doesnt affect me. Just win!

That's what I'm saying, Ryan Anderson was the correct signing in the offseason but right now his signing is already a sunk cost, it shouldn't affect the future moves of the team.

Salary is not just a number, due to the existence of the salary cap salary is very important as long as you follow the Houston Rockets. In most cases salary>talent, what's the point of having a superstar if he eats up 99% of your cap? The "it not my money" is one of the dumbest arguments I've read in CF if you really believe that why are you even posting on message boards and talking about player evaluation? None of these are our money and tbh no matter what we post on CF it won't impact the team moves or direction. Just watch the game then and just enjoy the result.

The thing about Anderson is that even when he's not hitting shots, the other team always defends him as if he IS. I'm guessing the advanced stats show that he's deadly on uncontested 3s. As long as he's on the floor, our spacing is set -- and even his off-nights don't change that. His very presence opens things up for everyone else, especially Harden.

The front office, the coaches and the players all know this, even if half of ClutchFans seems to be oblivious to it. You can't measure his value in terms of pure production.

I understand the salary concept. Believe me I truly do. I harped and harped flexibility for years. The truth is we can get anything better for his 18m without getting lucky.

Would you rather have Crabbe? Luol Deng? Thats what 18m gets you. Even more, Evan Turner? Biyombo? Noah? Bazemore? They receive similar amounts.

That's the reality of this age free agency. None of this are better players imo than Ryno with the possibility of crabbe. But with regards to fit and position he's the best guy.

You clear him out, what do you use the space on? It's not logical anymore. We need the "strength in numbers" strategy.

Instead of trading quality players with great fit, we need to add.

We need a wing/feontcourt secondary playmaker. Hayward type of guy. If we could get him and had to rid Ryno, absolutely. But not for gallinari. Who, BTW, who be a fantastic option.

We can target gallinari, without giving up Ryno and add another 18m player rather than swapping.

We have to keep adding to increase the variance. Short of hayward/butler/george/griffin we need to add not swap.

Lol you didnt respond to my points at all. All you did was call me dumb.... Cool bro.

So what is the smarter way to use the salary we are spending on ryan? I already agreed that if you get a megastar than yes you move him. What mega star would we get? It is likely that anderson will remain the best move available

The Rockets could move Ryan Anderson if they really wanted to.

He doesn't long term limit their true flexibility, and his salary isn't nearly as restrictive as it would be only a few years ago.

Exactly. Tbh the most frustrating thing to me about Ryno, is his shot attempts per game. He should be shooting more.

He takes 6.9 3s game but I think he should be shooting more like 9-10 a game.

i think that more as to do with how games play themselves out though. Theres games where he does take that many 3s if the game dictates him to. He has good enough bball iq to know when to shoot and when not. I like that he doesn't just chuck 3 pters every game just because. He could very easily do so.

Agreed. I was surprised to see that he's already averaged at least 6.9 3pt attempts three prior seasons (last year with Magic, first season with Pelicans, then shot 7.5 3s with Pelicans the 2nd year). EDIT: should be noted though that he played a lot more minutes in his career high season. Played a full 3 quarters that year (36.1 minutes played).

Crazy given our system that this year won't be his career high in threes attempted per game.

Goes to show you though that true Moreyball is still only in its infancy. I mean, our starting C doesn't even have shooting range beyond 5 feet! I'd still go all in for Cousins in the offseason if New Orleans wants to turn around and trade him with 1 year left on his deal. Harden + 4 shooters is ideal Moreyball. Having even just 1 non-shooter can ruin the offense by smart coaches who know how to exploit weaknesses.
