Disappointed is an understatement. This goes far beyond that. The biggest cyber attack on the US, and over 18,000 organizations infected for months, inclúding federal agencies and "critical infrastructure", and posing a grave risk to government and private networks.

Trump scoffs at the focus on the Russia. He calls himself a Patriot, but acts like a Comrade to the Kremlin. Just as we all expected, he deflects and throws out China's name instead. Putin loves his little clown puppet.

Why does Trump always fight to defend Russia? That's the biggest question.

At least Romney voted to remove Trump unlike Collins who said "Trump has learned his lesson" when given the chance to do something about Trump.

They will say "It's all a Hoax", "Clinton and the Democrats were the ones colluding with the Russians!", "Steele Dossier!", and "Democrats have been trying to steal the election for the last four years and still are!"

The obvious answer is that Rs are Fake Patriots. Rs appear to be totally consumed by keeping and wielding power. Nothing else.

Pompeo's momentary lapse of un-reason will not go unpunished.

This is Putin wringing the last big presidential "favor" while dip$hit twists in the wind.

"It would be a shame if that pee-pee tape and all your Russian dealings might be revealed now..."

I'm not sure what Romney is supposed to do. He didn't hold back and blasted Trump on this issue across the board. He voted to impeach him, he said some pretty extraordinary things about Trump during his impeachment vote, etc. At the end of the day, he's one Senator and his power to actually do things is fairly limited.

Romney blasted the whole GOP today as well...

    https://www.axios.com/mitt-romney-republican-strayed-5a45733c-bec8-4b57-aadf-3dd014a3d570.html

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) told CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday that the Republican Party "has taken a different course" from its core values in recent years.

Why it matters: Romney has emerged as the party's most prominent critic of President Trump. He was the only Republican to vote to convict the president during the impeachment trial in the Senate earlier this year.

    • The 2012 GOP presidential nominee conceded he represents "a very small slice of the Republican party today."
What he's saying: "The party that I knew was very concerned about Russia and Putin and Kim Jong-un and North Korea and we pushed back aggressively against them," Romney said. "We were a party concerned about balancing the budget. We believed trade with other nations."

    • "We were happy to play a leadership role on the world stage because we felt that made us safer and more prosperous and we believed character was essential in the leaders we chose."
    • "We strayed from that. I don't see us returning to that for a long time."
Yes, but: Romney stopped short of saying he would ever leave the party, instead saying he is "more effective" being in the party while trying to return it to its original values.

    • "I think ultimately the Republican party will return to the roots that have been formed over — well, the century."
Worth noting: Romney said he doesn't see the party's nominee for the presidency in 2024 returning it to its core values, because most of the people vying for the spot "are trying to become as much like Donald Trump as they can be."

    • "Although I must admit that his style and shtick, if you will, is difficult to duplicate. He is an extraordinary talented person from that standpoint."

Romney's one of the few GOPers who have consistently shown some backbone in standing up to Trumpism. The Party needs many more like him.

The attack is pretty clear. Putin obviously expects that Biden will not be a lackey and will hold Russia accountable so he’s trying to get as much malware and cyber moles dug into our system so they can get ahead of any moves the Biden might make in the next 2 years.

What makes Putin so dangerous is his Cold War era paranoia that the US is still trying to go to war with the Soviet Union. It’s important to understand how much of a relic of the Cold War that Putin is and how out of touch he is with the people of Russia and the American public who both really have no appetite for Cold War recreation.

I think the more that Biden and our allies can really call out the unnecessary Cold War paranoia on the world stage it could really have a positive outcome by simply shaming him. Does Putin want to be a paranoid nut case in the camp of Balsanaro and Trump, or does he want to be respected alongside Biden, Merkle, Macron, etc. I think Boris seems to have changed a bit now that he’s actually in power and maybe there’s a chance of the allied coalition having some real impact in defusing this Cold War paranoia.

Because the US and Russia unnecessarily attacking each other through cyber and other means is a such an incredible waste of resources.

That part is very true! They made their bed with Trump. Now they will all be covered in the stench of that Trump pee, and nothing they say or do later will rid the stench they covered themselves up in.

The problem is that Russia isn't in good shape. Oil price collapse has really hurt their economy and international standing. Without Putin's moves to interfere in other countries and destabilize things on internationally Russia would be a second rate power.

Trumps Q rating overwhelmed the GOP primaries and led them to the Whitehouse. He's the head of their party, and party politics is about strength through loyalty. Their political power and re-election was dictated by Trump. To speak out was to render yourself powerless and primaried.
