It's hard to keep track, was he the one who said post-election that it was totally secure and then they fired him the next day(s)?

That guys was a lawyer. Do you really think he knew anything about cyber security. He was a bureaucrat. He probably knew something about policy. Why not hire someone with an engineering degree.

    Fappening 3.0?

This is one of those positions that shouldn't be a political appointment, but always seems to be one.

The head of IT Security for my current employer was the CIO's secretary four years ago. She doesn't even know the port for SSL.

Wow, that sounds like a huge haul for the Russian gov and a huge loss for the US.

Trump probably sold the access to them
    Or
Gave it to them out of spite.

This is a hack of Austin-based SolarWinds network-monitoring software (used by score of large corporations), nothing to do with what Krebs was talking about wrt election-security. Further, per article in Chronicle today, Krebs is quoted as saying his team warned of state-actor hacking activity, and he believes this part of the whole long-planned hit.

Both SolarWinds CEO and Krebs, plus others, believe this hack required immense craft and planning, as well as creating vulnerabilities, first, throughout the “supply-chain” of SolarWinds. (I can only guess that means hardware was made or pre-hacked before shipment, to help the hack. Or SolarWinds, gulp, contracts out some software work.)

Or just did it unknowingly since he takes zero precautions in regards to security from the Russians and conducts his govt. business on a consumer iPhone.

I read the article on Fireeye. They stole their research tools to detect viruses and breaches and tried to wipe their tracks after entry. Definitely a big loss for Fireeye and its clients since they can use those tools for cracking or hardening against detection.

I don't trust the government to not get hacked, man. They don't pay people well enough. They don't have the talent for this. They cant even handle voting. China can FORCE the best of the best to work for them. We need to roll the government back to paper files.
