alysonfooter More R. Ortiz: "I just wasn't able to get it done, especially the last 2 times out.I came out for the game (Thursday) feeling I was ready."

Seems like a nice guy just not a MLB pitcher anymore...

Can't say he didn't deserve it.

If he was pissed when Cooper yanked him, I wonder how pissed he is right now.

At least there is still independent ball he can play, I hear Shawn Chacon is doing pretty well there.

Sorry Ortiz but thats the way it should be. When you just can't pitch anymore just cut ties and be done. He is a millionare and still in his 30's he can enjoy life and never have to work a day in his life. Bring up the young guys because they can't be any worse. Hampton scares me to and even Sampson : (

"Spoke with a friend who is a scout for the Reds. He said he has heard the Astros are trying to get Jon Garland and Scott Rolen. He said both can be had for 2 mid level minor leaguers each and or future considerations."

Grrr... all the astros really have are mid-level prospects. So any deal would still be skimming the top off our farm system. I know they wouldn't trade Castro but everyone else is fair game.

improvement, but only slight. garland is pretty middle of the road. i don't mind having rolen for a couple years and having some stability at 3rd (maybe move blum over to 2nd?), as long as it doesn't impact drayton's future spending, since rolen has a bad contract.

if they are going to do this, i hope drayton plans on going all out next year, and bringing in as big of an arm as he can.

yeah, like you said, obviously norris, lyles, seaton, or castro wouldn't be involved, and drayton's pocketbook is going to be the only thing taking a hit.

Not true. They likely would not trade Norris, Seaton or Lyles either. Anybody else (Bazardo included) is likely trade bait.

Castro and the 3 pitchers listed above are the names least likely to be moved.

Garland is a huge improvement over Hampton/Ortiz/Moles..LOL

Seriously rather have gotten Sanchez from the Pirates and Rolen's contract is really bad for a decent hitter but not 2003-4 Rolen.

HOWEVER...after Ortiz's release today and this rumor it gets me a bit excited!

    Garland for Bogasevic

    Rolen for Towles and Trinadad

That should do it and keep this club in contention!

would i rather have them than those 3? sure, but come on, the guy is a 4.5 era pitcher for his career.

i'm just saying he's not the kind of pitching acquisition that's going to significantly improve our divisional chances.

if the astros get rolen and garland without giving up their top prospects this team would have a real good chance of making the playoffs.

No No I was kidding sorta of lol...I think it would all depend on what we would give up for him but honestly he would be a better option then what we have and if Norris is truly something, Garland can slide in the 4th spot and our rotation would be significantly better.

    Oz
    Wandy
    Norris
    Garland
    Moles

Lots of ifs but hey thats what makes trade deadlines fun lol
