Being named one of the three tier one public research university in Texas by Carnegie doesn't make it good?
The connections are a pretty big deal in Greek life. Coming from a school of 10000-15000 students.. Lots of People will at least know of you. However, ethnic fraternities struggle to have a strong connection on campuses because the big focus is on social fraternities. If I were you.. I'd go social. You'll develop into a much more well rounded individual and have way more friends. Hazing. Throughout the decade, a lot of universities have become sensitive about this topic due to some strange incidents (butt chugging, elephant walk, etc). So I think it's safe to say you'll be fine. you have the right to deny any request they ask of you. Their purpose is to simply 1) find out how badly you want to be apart of their brotherhood 2) they want your respect 3) they want a good laugh. Anyway, hazing is something you should not worry about. They will probably be okay with you saying know if they ask you to do something ridiculous. They would probably respect you if you said something like "I want to be apart of the brotherhood.. But this is something I just refuse to butt chug that" Anyway good luck and hope this helps
Having experienced hazing, I have to disagree with you here. I think he would run into trouble if he flat out denied it. The main point, in my opinion, behind most hazing is that it will grow the brotherhood and relationship you have with your pledge brothers. Yeah some things will be ridiculous, but more often than not it's just a lot of drinking and maybe some physical tasks or things for you to get yelled at...a mental **** more than anything. It's just part of the process and I would say you should embrace it. All of this being said, yeah sometimes people **** up and take things way too far, but very rarely does this happen
