I'm currently rushing a couple of asian interest fraternities at University of Houston; Lambda, Omegas - just got finished with the interviewing process.

Since I don't know much about Greek life in general, I was hoping someone could shed some light on what I can expect from here on out (if i get a bid).
    Initiation process, potential hazing, etc.

This is the process I am most worried about and I guess I'm just hoping to be reassured that it isn't as bad as it seems. Thanks.

Don't know anything about Asian frats, but hazing these days is usually never as bad as people try to make it sound. Most houses are too afraid to get in trouble/kicked off campus to do anything that would seriously put them in jeopardy. The threat of a pledge running to IFC or whatever student gov body is too high. Of course, there are still rare instances which you will see in the news, but generally it's pretty harmless stuff.

(just don't do the elephant walk)

My ex fiance's brother was in one of the asian frats at UH. He was an upperclassmen that oversaw a few pledges. As far as I can recall, and he lived in the same apartment with us when he wasn't on campus, everything seemed pretty harmless.

Look, the frat thing is an interesting addition to your college career. However, do not go overboard. My ex's brother failed out of school and another guy I knew in the same frat ended dropping out and pushing prescription drugs.

From what I've heard the ethnic fraternities haze pretty hard compared to normal Greek fraternities

Oh yeah, the black frats at UF were known to have some serious hazing. Especially Kappa Alpha Psi and the Q-Dogs (the athlete frat that makes the symbol below). They literally got BRANDED with the Omega.

To be honest with you, I know people that were in Lambda's and none of them have really amounted to anything. So if you are looking for connections to job's in the future, that may not be the best route. Now if you wanna hang out with every nguyen you could every think of and bang not so hot asian chicks from kd phi. Then be my guest.

Keep in mind that every chapter for each fraternity tends to be quite distinct. My recommendation is to go to as many rush events as possible and see who you get along with the best.

Ahhh good ole UofH. Is it still the place where kids go once they get rejected from Rice, UT, A&M, Baylor, SMU and Texas Tech?
