Rush was denunciating the media just as each Sunday so far he has managed to denunciate "pop culture" and the media.

Limbaugh's comments were an attempt to damage McNabb's reputation at the expense of truth. I can do litte damage to Rush's reputation that he hasn't already done. Rush is Rush. We know his agenda and where he stands on things. Moreover, Rush didn't stop at "do well." Rush specifically said that McNabb "hasn't been that good from the get go" and is overhyped and overrated due to his skin color. That goes far beyond saying that the media wants him to "do well." That is saying that our conception of McNabb--and by extension black quartrbacks--is based on the agenda of a media that wants to see black quarterbacks succeed.

The few of you who continue to defend Rush, continue to ignore the fact that he did say Donovan wasn't as good as presented by the media.

How did you feel when Isiah Thomas said basically the same thing about Bird??

Uh, Larry Legend has won a championship and is a Hall of Famer. McNabb is nowhere near that level. McNabb misses Trotter and Doublass and the many other losses from that defense.

Are you here to say that McNabb is *better* than the media portrays him? That would be a big stretch. I do think McNabb is overhyped, as is his mother in those Campbell's Chunky commercials.

You're right, Douglass and Trotter are a tremendous loss to that once talented Eagles offense.

Larry Bird played on on teams with as many as four hall of famers. This is no knock on Larry Bird, just to say he played on two of the greatest teams in the history of the NBA.

How great are the teams McNabb has played on. Its totally different. How many pro bowlers play along side of him on offense. Case in point, do you think Randy Moss helps his QB's numbers. What about Terrell Owens. What about Marvin Harrison. Who does McNabb throw to. What star running back does he play with to take preasure off his passing game.

And the question isn't is he better, I never said that, the question is, is he overhyped. If you think so, that's your perogative.

Maybe, just maybe, there's a middle ground somewhere between the level the media have placed McNabb and the level Rush Limbaugh has placed McNabb (not "that good from the get go").

But we return to the central thesis. Do the media pump up McNabb because they want to see a black quarterback succeed (and this one inparticular, not Steve McNair or Quincy Carter, but Donovan McNabb), or do they pump him up beyond his success because the media is in the business of creating stars?

I think the media pump up McNabb because they are in the business of creating stars AND they want to see him, in particular, succeed (though not neccessarily because of his race). McNabb is supposed to be a media darling--polite, accessible, a good interview and a great smile. I think the media's support for McNabb hinges on his style of play and his personality. His race is a novelty.

Or do they pump him up because he somehow led an offense void of talent to be really really good (#2 scoring offense in the NFC last year)?

That helps explain the hype through and since last season, but McNabb did not exactly toil in obscurity prior to last season.

And we do often see QBs (other than McNabb) praised in excess of their abilities. People are often on the lookout for the next big thing. When a player shows any potential to be that next big thing, we will often see a boatload of hype, regardless of the color of the player.

And one can look at his numbers and say that he has not had the statistical success that some other QBs have had (using the measures that are most often used to judge a QBs statistical success). Whether that's because his surrounding cast is not so hot, or because of something inherent in his game, that can be argued. But if you argue that McNabb isn't as good as the media would lead the world to believe, I would aruge their reason for doing so is not because of the color of his skin (and stats only tell so much anyway).

Heck, I would promote any success that McNabb had regardless of how miniscule just to show, once again, how stupid Philly fans were to boo his selection in the draft.

Personally, I think the guy is close to as good as advertised.

Yup, saw it during the Boston - Oakland game. Here is the article:

    Limbaugh resigns from NFL show

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ESPN.com news services

In the wake of his controversial statements regarding Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, Rush Limbaugh has resigned from his position on ESPN's NFL pregame show. ESPN has accepted the resignation.

Limbaugh issued a statement late Wednesday night in which he wrote:

"My comments this past Sunday were directed at the media and were not racially motivated. I offered an opinion. This opinion has caused discomfort to the crew, which I regret.

"I love NFL Sunday Countdown and do not want to be a distraction to the great work done by all who work on it.

"Therefore, I have decided to resign. I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of the show and wish all the best to those who make it happen."

George Bodenheimer, President, ESPN and ABC Sports, issued the following response:

"We accept his resignation and regret the circumstances surrounding this. We believe that he took the appropriate action to resolve this matter expeditiously."

Why, oh why did I take the over? I should've known that it'd take less than six weeks for Rush to stick his foot in his mouth.

Actually, QB succeeds with a great defense, it's because of the system. QB fails with a great defense , it's because of him. Either that or Brad Johnson is currently the best QB in the league (hint: he is not).

It would seem that Rush slept in his bed, refused to make it up, and Mommy has told him to go back to his treehouse with the squirrels. Beware of squirrel hunters, Rush... ROXRAN may be lurking out there.

Let's not forget that Donovan is the focal point of an offense that's been to consecutive conference championship games. It's not like he's Dan Pastorini riding on Earl's coattails. Rush is an idiot.

    Rush Limbaugh in pill probe

Talk radio star had drug habit, maid sez

    By TRACY CONNOR
    DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER
Talk-radio titan Rush Limbaugh is being investigated for allegedly buying thousands of addictive painkillers from a black-market drug ring.
The moralizing motormouth was turned in by his former housekeeper - who says she was Limbaugh's pill supplier for four years.

Wilma Cline, 42, says Limbaugh was hooked on the potent prescription drugs OxyContin, Lorcet and hydrocodone - and went through detox twice.

"There were times when I worried," Cline told the National Enquirer, which broke the story in an edition being published today. "All these pills are enough to kill an elephant - never mind a man."

Cline could not be reached for further comment yesterday, but her lawyer, Ed Shohat of Miami, said his client "stands behind the story."

The Daily News independently confirmed that Limbaugh is under investigation.

His lawyers, Jerry Fox and Dan Zachary, refused to comment on the accusations and said any "medical information" about him was private and not newsworthy.

They said Limbaugh - who has a top-rated syndicated radio show but resigned early today from a weekly ESPN football segment amid criticism of racial comments about Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb - was traveling and had no comment.

The Palm Beach County state attorney's office, which is running the probe, said it could not confirm or deny the allegations.

Seems like the Limbaugh has some really negative Karma attacking him right now....
