This seems to be the rage now. It makes sense when you run barefoot you land on the balls of your feet and not the heel and naturally muscles you didn't even know you had get stronger. However to avoid cuts and abrasions I am thinking about buying the Vibram Five Fingers. Has anyone bought these before? Basically a glove for your foot.
I saw the segment about this on Real Sports recently. My wife is a big runner and is thinking about giving it a try.
I read the book Born To Run. It's really good. I'm just wondering if this could translate to basketball somehow but most basketball shoes are very inflexible.
Reduces injuries makes your feet, ankles, and legs stronger because you don't have to rely on the cushiony support of shoes.
As someone who is a forefoot-striker with a neutral gait, I have no problems with my running shoes and I think they are much more versatile to wear than 5 Fingers (such as going to the mall after a quick run). [Harvard]Bio-mechanics of running barefoot
it does translate. Basketball shoes, in the process of supporting your feet, create "un-natural" stress on your knees.
has anyone used the insoles from Morton's Foot?? I have terrible arches from years of soccer and have just recently started running regularly again. out of shape, flat feet, mortons toe, heel striker = painful feet
Really? Thanks for the idea. Think I'll give it a shot around lunch. I was just thinking how fast transition times would be for triathletes if they didn't have to deal with shoes. Interesting...of course you would have to account for the bike pedals or revamp the pedal system altogether. Interesting none-the-less.
I have kind of wide feet so it helps. I'm not flat footed or anything but after a while I didn't miss shoes. If no one else uses your treadmill then who cares.
