Probably? Granted, it was for the Hawks, and his most minutes ever, but 17.5 ppg, 7 rpg and 3.2 apg speak for themselves. And it gives you the versatility to run him at either PF with T-Mac at SF or Harrington at SF with T-Mac at SG. If only Al could develope a 3 point shot. Getting Harrington for pick #24 would be fantastic. Add a potentially bench ready V-Span and an another PF like Swift. PG: Sura SG: T-Mac SF: Harrington PF: Swift C: Yao Bench, V-Span, James, Howard, Mutombo, Wesley...fantastic.
lol yall all got these harrington pipedreams, if the deal happened it would be something like #24 for #31 and Diaw guaranteed
When the Rockets triage opens in the midseason, whoever we draft will get some prime time minutes. Trading out of the first round seems boneheaded and wrong. Like 5 seasons worth of wasted draft picks wrong.
I say probably only because you never know who will be there at 24 or what they will turn out to be. He's definitely a good player, but not as good as those stats. Esp that ppg average. A lot of guys in the nba can score on awful teams. Still, he could be on the floor in a lot of different matchups and I think he would help the team on both sides of the court, even though he's not that ideal man-up pf defender a lot of people so desperately crave. Still, it is a bit to give up for the #24 pick, but if they draft Williams, want to unload Harrington's contract, and are in love with Ukic, then perhaps they could be strong-armed into a deal on draft day. Or it could just be the #24 for #31 and the second to last pick in the second round. If the rox aren't sold on the players at 24 I just don't see why they would trade for a shot at two players they aren't sold on. Who else in Atlanta is worth a damn that they might trade? A future 1st? The diaw suggestion might be alright but I haven't seen squat from him yet, he could just be boki part dos.
If this happens , then this will suck. This shows Dawsons weakness is the draft. What happened to the Bonzi/Wesley deal?
I would not hold it against CD if a bbs rumor that fails to materialize ... lets just call for his resignation because he did not trade Spoon for Kidd !!!
There never was a "Bonzi/Wesley" deal. Stop believing trash people spew out as "rumors" from "sources" on a message board. If CD gets anything of substance for a move of 7 slots (in a draft with this parity), considering the difference in contract status of a 2nd vs. a 1st, I'll be impressed. Let's see it actually happen, first.
The last person we can trust is Head's agent. Everyone's agent is telling anyone that will listen that their guy has been given a promise to be taken in the lottery. He wants teams to get desparate and trade up to pick him instead of just patiently waiting for him to fall to us.
I don't believe "trash", I actually saw this on TV a few days ago my friend. I know its a rumor and all, but I think Bonzi would be great here. JVG discipline would work well on him.
Further emabarassment for the Rockets that the Spurs can draft better. I know Rudy rolled the dice on draft night, but JVG doesn't even gamble.
gee, erick barkley, Torraye Braggs, and Robertas Rytas sound pretty good, too. They were picked as the same number as the guys you mentioned, only 1 year earlier. There are some good players late, but there's a lot of crap, especially in the second round.
Wow! So Head's agent said he might not be there at #24? Better trade down since we don't have any chance at any other good player. And there is no way ATL can really think Ukic will still be there at #24, but then again, there are the Hawks. I really hope we keep our pick, but I wouldn't be suprised to hear if the Rockets traded down.
the only way i would like this pick is if we can unload spoon or one of those worthless guys on the bench, sura or wesley, and our 24th pick for their 31st and harrington.... I mean it could make some sense. why would they want him if they have williams. just seems stupid. at 31 we could draft gomes. he would be great for us. talk abouta long atheletic body that can shoot and play defense. but thats best case scenrio...so it wont happen more than likely. but it would be sweet.
there is no way in HELL they are going to give us harrington for a late first round draft pick. that would NEVER happen.
The Bonzi/Wesley deal is truly one of those internet rumors that got out of hand in a hurry. It was originally off one of the RealGM/Espn boards saying that it was reported in the New York Post. But I did google news searches at that time and it never came up. But most people just assumed that it was really in the paper, and that it was from Peter Vescey (still considered a basketball "source" even with terrible track record). So all the message boards started discussing this rumor. Eventually it popped up on hoopsworld, and that's probably when it became a "legitimate" rumor. If you saw it on TV then invariably the source was probably from hoopsworld or some other internet site. If you do a google news search for "bonzi" and "houston", the only news article that mentions this rumored deal is from Hoopsworld. There never was an original new york post story on this. It's just the internet running wild.
oh, if we could do that... then we got harrington as a pf and gomes as a backup sf/sg...then we can spend the full mle on a point guard like AD, jaric, watson, maybe sign Jasikevicius,Damon Stoudamire,Dan Dickau.... regardless... that trade gives us good options. potential lineup: free agent/james/span sura/gomes/barry tmac/gomes/barry harrington/howard yao/deke
In terms of Luther Head, if you add up all of the guys "guaranteed" to go in the teens, you get a lot more than 10. This draft is deep, and we have multiple needs, so if there's no one you're in love with at 24, it makes perfect sense to drop down a few spots for equal talent. The biggest bonus is not getting saddled with a low first rounder's guaranteed contract, obviously. It's basically using an NFL draft idea, but it's totally applicable.
