Yeah, I love that video. I downloaded it the other day. Don't know where the inspiration to download it came from though.
You guys seriously make me sick, I can't believe you sit here and make fun of a man who did great things for this Country. Geez, this man has Alzheimers and is suffering daily and you show your condolences by making stupid-ass animations and draging up things he did that were questionable. I'm sure his family would totally be cool with it though. If you like disrespecting the man so much why don't you get up off your lazy Texas asses and pour your Bud Lights on the carpet of his Library.
You know regardless if he's dead or not, some of the people in this thread make me ill. Ronald Reagan helped put the Soviet Union out of business, made America a military superpower after the dark days of Vietnam, and brought forth the economic boom of the 80's. And yet all I hear from some people are Alzheimer's jokes and mockeries of his term. As someone who had a close relative die of Alzheimer's, I take these "maybe he doesn't remember" comments very personally, despite the fact that "it's only a joke". While you're at it, why don't you make some AIDS or cancer jokes? Or, better yet, imagine how it would be to lose your sense of reality (and knowing it), and having to depend more and more on others for the most basic of activities, until at last you're bedridden and not able to express any emotion whatsoever. Very pleasant, isn't it? And some of you are making light of it simply because you disagree with his political views. Very nice. Personally, I thought Reagan was an excellent President despite his failings in the Middle East, and I wish nothing but the best for him and his family.
I also have to say, regardless of whether or not he died, and regardless of whether or not any of you agreed with any of his decisions, taking cheap shots at an old man with Alzheimer's is pretty ****ing classless.
What do you expect? These guys have let their hatred of Republicans define their political viewpoints completely. Frankly, these cheap shots on Alzheimer sufferers don't surprise me at all, when you consider the source.
I may be wrong, but I thought the shots about him not remembering were because that's the plea that Reagan made about the whole Iran Contra thing. The jokes about him not remembering were around during his presidency. That may not be the reason people in this thread made jokes about him. Anyway I'm sure none of those complaining ever made jokes about President Clinton, and Monica Lewinsky. If the jokes were about his current state of alzheimers then maybe it's in poor taste, if it's about his memory while he was president it's fair game.
That Genesis video I mentioned was made around 1989 or something, the tasteless joke was just to tweak people a bit. I think jokes about politicians are pretty funny no matter what party they're talking about.
How ironic that you mentioned AIDS here since Reagan didn't even say the word publicly until May 1987 which by then over 20,000 American lives were lost to the disease. Of course the general consensus then was that it was only a gay plague until Ryan White proved that wrong. Ronnie's commission on AIDS included no actual medical professionals but did include a man who believed one could get AIDS from a toilet seat.
If you call bringing the country to the brink of bankruptcy, creating hundreds of thousands of homeless people, and ignoring AIDS great things, then more power to you.
You people blame Ronald Reagan for the spread of AIDS? What a laugher. Last year, after a disproportionate amount of money and attention was given to the AIDS cause for 10 years, AIDS rates among young homosexual men increased. Whose fault is this??
Nice logic here you freaking sicko. I guess if you disagree with somebody politically, then all decorum is abandoned?
Ever see " And the band played on"? it is pretty well known fact that the Reagan Administration refused to admit there was a problem and therefore would not allocate money to try to combat it or to even educate people about it. He may not have done it personally, but he sure as hell didnt help.
LMAO @ "The Band Played On". Do you think that was a fair portrayal of history? Outlaw and his lefty friends are blaming Reagan for something that apparently NOBODY can do- stopping homosexual men from transmitting the HIV virus to one another. I am sorry if this fact is politically incorrect, but it is a fact nonetheless.
you can LYAO all you want, I was paying attention during that time in our history, and in all his press conferences...they NEVER mentioned what everyone else saw happening around them... What am I bothering tryin to explain anything to you for....I should know better.
damn, I hate it when I come up with something to say after the fact.. johnheath, The movie is more based in reality than most of your posts
Your myopia is hilarious. Keep posting...the world needs more laughter. Not only was "And the Band Played On" a fair portrayal of history, it was something that you do not have a freaking clue of...an accurateportrayal of history.
If I were responding to that gidget, R2K, I also might point out the extreme double standard he ( surprise, surprise ) allows himself for pointing out what he considers to be 'politically incorrect' facts, but okaying it with himself because he considers them to be 'facts', while at the same time condeming others for alluding to other, possibly politically incorrect facts about Reagan...such as his memory problem, or the fact that he used memory loss as an out during the Iran-Contra scandal...but as I'm not, I won't....
Did HIV transmission rates increase last year for young homosexual men? YES. Using your logic, this is Clinton's fault. You people who blame Reagan for the bathhouse lifestyle of gay men in the early 80's are hypocrites.
By the way, I watched "And the Band Played On" on HBO (Matthew Modine was the star I think). In my opinion, the show was incredibly biased.
