This could fall under anti-trust law. Specially if it kills competition like gamestock or redbox.

Oh well i dont game as much so i probably wont play.

I don't see how it is unfair. You bought the product. You should be able to sell it now as a used, but whole product. It works that way with everything else you purchase.
Imagine if Toyota demands a cut of every used Camry that is sold or they will make sure the A/C doesn't work anymore.

Yes, but you're buying the product *knowing* that its used value is diminished because of this. You're not entitled to anything here, the producer can change the value of the resale of the product and it is up to you to consider if that product is worth buying anymore.

I doubt it would fall under ant-trust law. You don't have a legal right to make profit by reselling someone's product.

Either way, I bet Microsoft will come up with a solution that still allows for game rentals. Maybe the games distributed to places that rent will get a special coding. Who knows.

I don't think they really care about gamestop's ability to resell their games as they lose income on that.

That's a fair reply. It's a fair response to the used market, which I personally don't think will work. But it's a fair response.
My response is with all the crying and moaning from EA and other game developers about how unfair it is. It isn't unfair.
If Toyota wants to make sure you buy only new cars otherwise you won't have a working A/C then that's their prerogative. People will stop buying their cars similar to how I think people will stop buying any games that use this feature on the Xbox. I think the smart developers will not implement that feature to differentiate themselves.
Open Source/non-DRM... choice... always wins out.

Aim your anger at Gamestop (the people who have built an entire empire out of ripping off gamers/developers and not producing ANYTHING). This will likely help the game development industry a lot and lead to more and better games.

But the problem is there are ongoing concerns with the product in online mulitplayer, which bears a cost burden to the publishers and developers.

So we get nothing for keeping servers active for people that never paid us to play on them in the first place.

I think what will happen is reasoned heads will come through and GameFly and the rest will have to share revenue to get key codes...

umm not real knowledgeable of the details but arent multiplayer games hosted on client hardware? only servers required to connect them are microsofts... of which isnt that the point of their monthly fee?

You keep replying to me when I'm replying to someone else. You need to keep your replies in context.

The obvious answer there is to charge more for the game.

You're not obligated to keep the servers running, but when you turn them off, you certainly kill the value of the game.

See. This is the type of attitude I was replying to in my first response. You claim it's unfair. That they're ripping you off. That they're not producing anything. Who said they had to produce anything? But they're clearly producing value for the customer or they wouldn't be in business.
