Are they going with the real HDMI or the half ass that they pushed with the Elite?

I think I read that the hardware was labeled Zephyr, which was used for the Elite. So I'm assuming that it is basically just the internals of an Elite in a Premium shell (meaning the same HDMI as the Elite...and probably no 65nm chips). No confirmation on either of those things, but that seems likely to me.

There might be a mix of systems with newer internals though (under the "Falcon" name, which I guess might include 65nm and possibly HDMI 1.3...not sure the newer HDMI version really makes a difference with the 360 though).

From what I've heard 1.3 doesn't do much of anything for console games, but does for movies.

yeah, who cares about HDMI 1.3, that's useless for the vast majority of people. the 65nm chips are the most important thing...RC you haven't heard any confirmation on this yet?

Out of curiosity, where do you keep your 360? And where do you keep the 'power brick'?

I had a problem with mine early on, turned out that the thing just really needs an inordinate amount of ventilation. I had it inside a cabinet alongside my other electronics, and it just plain old overheated. Once I moved the brick outside and away from the other devices, and made sure that I kept the cabinet door open any time I had the 360 turned on, never a problem with it since.

Just an FYI. Maybe it's just getting too hot.

Boy my experience is very different.

Purchased the 360 last year, at the same time purchased an HDTV for a secondary room. (Have a DLP HD projector in the main entertainment area).

The 360 of course only came with component cables in the box, and, as the 360 surprisingly (at the time) did not utilize a digital HD output, I went to Fry's and found the cable which uses the VGA output. This was because both the new LCD HDTV and the projector both had VGA inputs as well as other standard video and HD inputs.

Anyway, I did a direct comparison between the picture quality from the 360 using both the included component cables and then the VGA. And let me tell you, the VGA smoked the components, and it was not even close. It's hard to describe, but the components produced strangely out-of-balance colors, and a definitely more fuzzy picture. The VGA input, however, was pure perfect.

It actually worked out well for me that way, since I was already using my projector for HD from my satellite (via an HDMI-to-DVI adapter), and if I had had to try to get a 2nd HDMI source up to that thing, I don't know how I could have done it at the time. Heck, even now, buying an HDMI switchbox will run you a couple hundred bucks. Or else buy a new receiver with HDMI switching built-in, and pay almost a grand for it. Man, just finding a 30-foot DVI cable was hard enough without taking out a 2nd mortgage. (FYI, I actually found one on Amazon for only $79, if you can believe that! Works perfectly too)

SO I lucked out, I guess, since I just switch inputs on the projector itself using its remote, to switch from 360 to satellite.

But as per your original comment, from what I observed, there was a definite and very large difference between the picture provided by the components and the one provided by the VGA output. I will go out on a limb and predict that there is at least as big a difference between the video part of the HDMI and components as well.

Yeah, that's how I understand it. I'm not that knowledgeable on the audio-side of things though, so if there is anything that I missed, it would be some small benefit you would get in audio. Of course, I'm not even sure many 360 games would even support it (if it would even be possible on the 360).

I haven't really seen any strong confirmation either way at this point. For some reason, it seems like people don't want to open up their $350+ systems and void their warranties. :)

As I said, I'm guessing that they're still 90nm based on the Zephyr name. I guess it is possible that there might be models using the old Elite internals as well as some other models using the 65nm chips. And if not, we could definitely see a transition to that during the next few months.

I failed to mentioned earlier that I believe all these models have an additional heatsink though, so these systems will run a little cooler (and hopefully more reliably) even though they are still using 90nm. I'd probably wait to see how things go with the 65nm, but that's still nice to know. Hopefully they keep the extra heatsink even when they go with 65nm, just to be on the safe side.

Please... as if I'd give you nerds any info to find me on there... bwahaha.

(I suck at most games anyway... I just play them to pass the time... I'm pretty much "bait" in any first person shooter.)

The other thing you need to take full advantage of what HDMI 1.3 would offer is a receiver and a tv that support its capabilities. I don't think many built before 2007 do. I know earlier this year there weren't even many movies that would put HDMI 1.3 to use out on DVD. A few months ago there were only like 10-20 DVD titles that were "TrueHD", but more were coming out this year. I dunno, sounds like a buncha hubub over spec freaks.

From what I heard, and I very well may be wrong, is that you cannot get digital audio out of the HDMI connection that the Elite comes with. If that is the case, what is the point of putting the connection on there. I'm not complaining about video quality. I'm complaining about having to run 4 different cables. That sucks.

How does the manufacturer warranty work if you buy a system used?
