Having a single cable carry video and sound is convenient though.

    Hey guys,

I can't start threads ( ) but I REALLY need some help concerning an Xbox 360, so I'll post it here...

The Xbox 360 I've been using all summer (which isn't mine, thus making it even more imparative that I fix it) suddenly stopped being able to read discs. I'm talking games, movies, you name it. When I turn it on, it gets these red flashing lights where the green ones should be. Then, when I put discs in, it either makes a disturbing grinding noise (like it's trying vainly to read the disc) or a low droning noise (like it's given up all hope).

Please, if anyone knows wtf is happening, how to fix it, or where to take it, let me know.

    Thanks.

So I can just send it to them, and they'll send it back fixed for free without a warranty??

Lol, I totally would, but my friend happens to be my oversensitive little brother... :(

I'll be calling XBox support when I get home from work to ask about the refund...

Good luck, cause its not a refund. They send you a box so that you can ship it back to them in order for them to fix it. Then they send it back to you good as new.

No doubt about it, and also a lot easier to manage.

Yeah it's amazing how my rat nest of cables basically disappeared when I upgraded my receiver and started using HDMI wherever possible.

i think they fix any ring of death error for free now. or atleast they extended the warranty where almost every owner is covered. anyways, if you call them today you'll have a different xbox within a week.

they don't fix your xbox, they just send you another one that they fixed before. you're not waiting for yours to get worked on.

360 Cores and Premiums with HDMI? An inside source spills the beans

    By Ben Kuchera | Published: August 07, 2007 - 02:07PM CT

When I was at E3 I had a chance to get a look at the new Halo-edition 360 hardware, and I asked about the HDMI connection. "HDMI will probably be standard moving forward," I was told. I pushed for more information, but was rebuffed. Now, after the price drop announcement, a mole sent us some interesting information about Microsoft's upcoming hardware plans. If you're thinking of buying, you may want to hold off.

First, a few caveats. This is rumor. I won't name the source, but the information she/he provided me matches up with everything I've been told and understand about Microsoft's future hardware plans. I think it sounds solid, but I'm not willing to say this will definitely happen.

Soon you may not have to choose between the Elite and HDMI

According to my source, Microsoft wants to cut through all their existing inventory of hardware. They will then quietly "soft launch" a new version of the Core and Premium hardware in late August or September that will include an HDMI port. It's also expected that this new hardware will feature the 65nm process for the CPU and quieter DVD drives. The new hardware will ship in boxes very similar to what we saw on store shelves now, but there will be a small "call out" on the box so you know you're getting a system with the HDMI connection.

Much about this information makes sense. We can expect the 65nm machines to launch any time now, and with the launch of the Halo-edition system only the Cores and Premiums will lack the HDMI, this revision will make the connection standard. We also know Microsoft will be fixing the heating issues that caused their costly warranty extension, and bundling all these updates into one product moving forward would be a smart move.

HDMI-based Premium systems are already out apparently :

Now I need to know when they switch to the 65nm chips (if they haven't already) so my house won't go up in flames. :D

I got me a 360 last November with Gears of War and Rainbow Six: Vegas. It was fun for about 6 months but my 360 is now freezing up many times and I also keeps repeating that error message "disc is unreadable please clean". I know a lot of people are seeing that more often these days. It happens most often when you're online playing a match and suddenly the tray pops open and you get the error. Happens too frequently while playing Gears over Xbox Live. Anyway now I have gotten the Red Ring of Death a few times but luckily it was mostly short-lived and a quick reboot seems to fix it. Still I am very worried and starting to think this maybe a ticking time bomb.

I plan on purchasing Halo 3 and Mass Effect this fall but now I am starting to lean towards maybe selling the 360 and getting a PS3 once games like MGS4 and Grand Turismo 5 arrive.

I am very double minded right now and I'm wondering anyone else going through the same?

BTW my gamertag is "ghettocheeze" if you guys wanna play some RS: Vegas. I am currently trying to rank up and few more levels before I get ELITE rank.

    Enjoy!!!
