Longhorns should offer Sumlin the OC position, and sumlin should accept the offer. Muschamp didn't show me much this year, I wonder how well he would do if all his players weren't blue chippers?

Geoff Ketchum just tweeted that Major Applewhite is going go to Florida to be the offensive coordinator so I guess he wasn't getting that job with UT. Appelwhite was a great OC in his one season at Rice.

    Applewhite doesn't care about UT.

The were ranked 7th in the nation in yards given up per game. But you can only do so much when your offense goes 3 and out or throwing interceptions.

Muschamp had one semi down season but he can flat out coach. Just look at the stats his defenses have put up at LSU and Texas. I think he has led something like 6 or 7 different defenses to top 10 rankings. That is ridiculous. At Florida he is going get nothing but blue chippers so that shouldn't be a problem since he is a great recruiter as well. Should be one heck of head coach but you never know I guess.

Yeah that 7th ranked defense really showed its prowess when they opened up like a hooker's legs to Cyrus Gray, who gashed them for 200 yards. Get with the program man, the offense had nothing to do with how god awful that defense was. It's not like they only gave up big plays late in the game, they were fundamentally flawed: too soft in the middle, and then you have Blake Gideon out back sucking the life out of your defense and then talking mad $h!t every time he even comes close to making a positive play. I still don't think Muschamp was the world beater that people were making him out to be. But we shall see how he fares at Florida.

I just can't see why Kirby Smart would leave Alabama for Texas. It's almost a lateral move at this point.

I think the DC from TCU should get a call.

Texas is Effed now in the recruiting department. Wouldn't surprise me if they lose alot of next year's commits.

    :(

    Ugly, if true:

    http://recruitocosm.fantake.com/201...rida-texas-wanders-the-desert-forecast-bleak/

A month ago we reported that as HCIW, Muschamp wanted input on the
staff going forward and insisted that changes needed to be made. He
fully backed the decision to can Greg Davis along with some other guys
    not so dearly departed.

It’s simple: Muschamp wanted coaches X,Y, and Z under consideration.
Specifically Holgorsen. Actually, he wanted the head coaching gig now.
He was ready to take over and fix the systemic problems plaguing Texas
Football 2010. But Mack wasn’t going out on 5-7. And apparently he
wasn’t willing to listen to Muschamp’s input on the new coaching
hires. So Mack wanted coaches A, B, C. Muschamp called his bluff,
tripled his salary in the process, and is headed back to his preferred
    conference.

Only reason Smart would leave Bama for Texas is to use us as a stepping stone for a HC gig (i.e. Chizik and Muschamp).

how is it ugly. The link you quoted notes Muschamp effectively wanted to behead coach now. he isn't the head coach now. he's the d- coordinator now. its not like he wouldn't have bolted for a Florida HC position if he had more input, anyway.

Mack is the current coach, has been one of the best coaches in Texas history and is in charge Muschamp has been a solid defensive coordinator - he hasn't done anything as a head coach yet.

the loss of Major is probably a little more "ugly", but even pretending Major is a prodigy offensive coordinator or something is a stretch. the guy from Boise St. seems more qualified and a better hire, to me.

Muschamp and Major will have a crap ton of talent to work with, but the duo, combined with whomever the DC will be, strikes me as a pretty big risk for Florida.

Not so much ugly in losing him, but ugly in what was going on behind the scenes. Ugly in that Mack Brown wasn't interested in getting staffing input from his HCIW - that suggests continued friction within the top tiers of the staff.

If I'm UT, and assuming Applewhite is gone, I become mid-major central. Go get the OC from Boise State and the DC from TCU.

Regardless, whatever happens the next few seasons is a total reflection on Mack Brown. He gets to pick all the new staff (basically all the coaches are gone), so the team will be entirely in his image.

If Major or Holgerson go to Florida, then we also get to see what the alternative was. They are basically starting in the same position with a bad season and a whole new staff, so we'll see the same scenario play out there with all the coaches Muschamp wanted here.

It's pretty rare that you get to see the "what if" scenario play out in real life.
