I could not have said it any better. I can listen to Van, but only for a certain amount of time. I hate to say it, but I don't think they could have done any worse! I understand this may have been a last minute resort, and that they did supposedly ask other people, so effort was put into getting us more. It just seems like nobody likes Cooper on there, and I'm glad to find out that I'm not alone when I say hearing Van's voice drives me insane. When I listen to 610 and hear his commercials I immediatetly change the station. "Come to Sudies Ketfish (or as we would say, catfish) for a great time." I can honestly say that I can't think of any 2 people that would have been worse than these 2. I'm glad I'll be going to most of the games so I don't have to worry about this. The games I'm forced to listen to will definitely be muted on the television so I can listen to Gene.

P.S. The only thing I won't miss from Calvin is "Calvin Murphy's Marching Thunder." Did anyone else see this during the halftime show at one of the games last year?

    Looks like this is official.

ABC13 just said that the Rockets have hired Van Chancellor, but didn't give details (i.e. tune in at 10).

After listening to Van last night, I think all viewers need to turn on closed captioning to understand what they heck Van is saying.

One thing that struck me about the broadcast wasn't so much Van. I thought he did a fine job - needs some work, but I think he can and will improve. What struck me is how old he and Bill sound together. With Calvin, there was a youthful exhuberence not to mention a moderate dose of pop culture on each broadcast. Putting Bill and Van together could make this sound like the old kermudgin hour.

That was one of the main reasons I wanted Bullard. I like Van a LOT as a person and I think he can do color just fine. I am just not sold on the pairing of he and Worrell.

Bullard is so much better. And it's not like he doesn't have a Rockets tie in. He's such a fan favorite, it's not like it would have been politically hard to get him in as the commentator.
    Please god, why?!

They need subtitles at the bottom of the screen when Van is talking.

Pretty soon the Rockets broadcasting will be over run by the WNBA!

We were laughing at the prospect of people outside of the South listening to a Bill/Van broadcasted game. They won't understand a word!

I liked them, however. Better than Cooper or Bull, IMO, but of course, not as good as Calvin.

Yeah perhaps Van is better than Bull and definitely better than Coop but he is still terrible. I can't stand listening to him.

I hope all of this is just a big nightmare with Murph and he'll be back soon. But I am getting to the point now even if is guilty I still want him back.

Don't get me wrong if Murph is guilty he needs to be locked up for a long time. I was just thinking maybe they would let him do play by play from his cell. They could treat it as community service.

I thought he did a good job and I didn't have any problems understanding him.

I've listened to Bullard and Jeff Haggadorn do Comets play-by-play on the radio and they are very good.

I have zero problems with Worrell, but he and Van together are rough. And Cooper is a train wreck. They should just let Jeff do it by himself.

Seriously Van is embarassing. He sounds like Uncle Bob from Urban Cowboy. I'm sure out of town fans watching on League Pass think we are nothing but a bunch of Hayseeds in Texas.

The game against the Heat was as expected very hard to listen too...no need to elaborate.
VC is Les's choice. We could have had Snapper Jones. Who is next to take the mic for the Rockets, Clutch the bear, Tina Thompson?

When will the Rockets(Les) realize that VC's voice is the voice of the Rockets and a direct representation of their organization?

I'll never understand the overwhelming negativity of this board. Obviously things aren't ideal with Calvin out for the season but while you guys read this rumor and start shouting "DEAR GOD NO! NOT VAN CHANCELLOR!" I'm screaming "YES! YES! YES! NO MORE CYNTHIA COOPER AT HALF TIME!"

Just look at the friggin' bright side for once.

Oh even though I hate the news Props to you R-fan for the scoop. You think a long time Clutch BBS'er as yourself and no history of BS would get the benefit of the doubt around here. Almost makes you wonder why you waste your time. Oh well you have credibility in my book.
