Holy firestorm thread! I was just wondering about the possibilities of Dragic rejoining his old team. However, I learned alot from the responses here - thank you clutchfans.
I would not be shocked if Dragic signs with another team. The Rockets did try to trade him after all at the beginning of the season.......
Yep. The same team that signed Andray Blatche to a 35Mil deal. Im not saying NOBODY would take an overpaid player in trade, but their value as a trade asset can tank significantly. That most popular fringe all star calliber player going into unrestricted free agency almost always seems to get overpaid, and it bites the team that signs them in the A$% shortly therafter. Do we need to continue down the list- -Charlie V. -Ben Gordon -Jermaine Oneal(Pacers contract) -Arenas -Eric Dampier(Dallas contract) -Larry Hughes(Cavs) -Jerome James(Knicks) I dont think that Goran will flame out as fast as these bums, but you just never know when you sign a guy who has great production in a short period of time right before free agency, and once he gets signed long term.... bam. Im a huge Dragic fan and hope that he's retained by Houston, and think he has all-star "potential," but you cannot ignore the list of teams that have been burned being in the exact same position that the Rockets are in right now by players you would never think would flame out so quick. Im not saying they shouldn't sign Goran, but there are many different reasons for the Rockets to have a price they can live with, and stick to their guns. If he starts getting offers above wherever they have him projected, Im perfectly fine letting him walk myself. The question will be -At this price, is he an asset or is he a potential liability?

Well put except I take issue to the idea of a Thunder Model. The Celtics used their version of TheThunderModel to dump out of their assets and into KG and Ray-Ray. The #21 pick, acquired in a draft day trade, turned out OK, I'd say. Then it was just filling in the pieces. That's what the 80s C's and Lakers did they added @1 asset er piece per season and had great runs. Latter day C's are continuously adding the last piece and haven't succeeded as the Heat are trying to fill in the pieces, it's just not quite working out YET in talent laden South Beach. Give me the C's model. Keep the Thunder Model.
He could still be a valuable part of the future. He's only 28 and he has super low miles on his treads.
This idea of the "Thunder model" is getting ridiculous. Look up the history of the franchise right around the time they started "tanking" in clutchfans terminology. Their moves to reload through the draft and trade Ray Allen & s&t Lewis had nothing to do with tanking to get draft picks. This all happened right during the time period of the franchise being sold to Clay Bennett and the move to OKC being right on the horizon. The Seattle Supersonics were a very financially strapped team going into 2007. They get praised with fans and with the media alike for tanking a year or two to get Durant and Westbrook when in reality it had nothing to do with rebuilding through the draft and everything to do with $ and luck in the draft.
I guess I'd be open to taking Gortat if I knew we had a solid piece to build around. Dragic-Lee-Parsons-Scola-Gortat may get you an 8th seed at best, but leaves a lot to be desired.
Baby steps man. Our roster right now is an ugly mess. Getting Gortat makes it that much easier to get rid or Dalembert and or find a better long term solution than Camby at backup.
I am sure we all expected that a number of teams will be interested in Dragic, the Suns is no surprise. It would be a big gamble to trade Lowry prior to Dragic committing to the Rockets. The teams are going to go into a bidding war for Dragic once Deron Williams becomes unavailable. Morey has his limit on the max he will offer Dragic which might be less than what other teams will be willing to pay. If I was Morey I would work on trying to patch the Lowry - McHale situation because getting Dragic is going to be tough.
Overpaying Dragic still means getting value for Lowry. If for a pick then also a TE. #5 for Lowry + PPat (to 'man'tor with his buddy, Cousins). I'd be happy with that outcome.
From what that sounds, two scenarios need to happen: 1) Rox can get equal value for Lowry 2) Dragic wanting to return to Houston (however since he's an unrestricted free agent, he can go any where he wants). At this point, I presume Houston has no assurance that Dragic wants to come back?
Eh, I guess I'm pessimistic. Things really haven't been going the Rockets way for awhile so what makes us think Dragic will come back? I guess it's still early but am just not feeling too good of our chances preserving Goran.
