It has to be for the Rockets. According to a Phoenix sports radio station, the famous Gambo or whatever his name is, said Marcus Banks at a 5-year, 21 million deal is "essentially done". This is from the Phoenix Board in Real GM. This is after he refused an MLE offer by the Rockets(that I choose to disbelieve), I think Marcus is money-hungry, I think the Rockets offered him a split MLE offer..probably a 16/4 deal. And Marcus will choose Phoenix over Houston. How does this fair for Phoenix? I'd like to talk about it more in another new topic, however I don't have that privelege yet. But in terms of Vassilis, it's now John Lucas III or Spanoullis at PGs, or even both.
Crap! If V-SPAN doesn't sign with us then there would be absolutley no good PG'S left in free agency.
I hope its true that Marcus Banks is signing with Phoenix I didn't want us to overpay for him or even get him for that matter.
Vassilli Spanoulis will decide tomorrow if he is the next Houston Rocket! He will talk to the Panathinaikos president tomorrow and make his decision... apparently he has an 48 hour deadline by the rockets org!
I hope he does not get cold feet and leave the Rockets at the alter like Mike James did. Personally I think this is a very good chance for him. He would come to a team that has a strong starting rotation but desperately needs a point guard. He just happens to be a point guard. Oppertunity is knocking.
Its about 4 AM in Greece right now. If he plans on making a decision tommorrow Greek time, it will likely be between 6-12 hours from now.
That's exactly as I see it. With all due respect to Desert Scar, a $2 million 3 year deal isn't that much of a gamble as m_cable has already said. Sifting through the hyperbole attached to this guy in various scouting reports, the one thing about his game that everyone seems to agree about is that he goes to the rack and finishes. He apparently also dishes in the paint. Rafer had a bad year, T-Mac wasn't healthy and it seemed to affect his brain more than I would have thought, but I'm still waiting to see someone play with Yao in the way that accentuates his game. I don't care if Spannoulis becomes a bust, but I do care if he blossoms into a great player and we never even had chance to see him. I just don't see how we can not take the chance. IMHO opinion the Battier acquisition makes more sense to me if we have 3 guys on the court that can slash and dish. So having KillBill on the court with Battier, T-Mac and Yao is appealing to me. Ironically, if Alston had had a normal year (and not been injured) I'd bet against V-Span coming over this year. But I still think more is "up for grabs" this year than most people here think. This will be interesting.
The Rockets won't need a player like him(Eddie House) who only knows how to shoot and is very undersized on the defensive end. I'm quite positive about signing VSpan. Combo guards are starting to become a hot commodity nowadays. If given enough playing time he'll be a good player. Probably JVG will give him between 10 -15 mins. per game. I just hope he makes most out of it if he wants to make a mark on the Rockets roster. JVG is hard to please. I'm sure he'll be playing a lot of minutes in the preseason games to adjust himself to the NBA atmosphere.
Toss in Snyder, and it's even more interesting. I think we're going to see one heck of a lot more slashing to the bucket and finishing than we've seen in a while. That, and the drive and dish will be a staple.
Well 6 mil over 3 years is not too bad. 4.5 mil over 3 is more reasonable. I thought the discussion was over 2 mil to 3 mil per year for a totally unproven player without a low lotto type upside that usually goes for rook contracts of that amount. But in general half the MLE, a deal starting at say 2.5 to 3 mil a year, IMO is too much. Even at 2 mil a year, that only leaves another 3-3.5 mil to offer another free agent. I'd rather have a 4 mil type MLE to throw at someone like Fred Jones (or maybe Banks, Reggie Evans, Jeffries, etc) later in free agency. But if VS's deal is at 1.5 mil, that does leave us with close to a 4 mil contract to dangle (which we could also try to get a S&T with the TE at that level), I suppose I am OK with that.
According to this site: http://www.eortologio.gr/data/eortes2en.php?minas=1&onoma= and here are the team colours of his former team:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euroleague They won it in 2002. I suppose V-Span wasn't on the team back then? Last year's winner was CSKA Moscow.
