EMG #214 I figured out how to use quotes, Many of the games I had high expectations for received an above average score
EGM scores are usually a little lower than normal I think. Spoiler Plus, some of the reviewers are idiots.
I'm not a R&C fan, nor do I think I ever will be, but the game looks great. Ooops, I meant to post the EGM blurb in the March preview thread.
That makes sense. I thought maybe you were just trying to post some more rumors that might be related to GDC (Warhawk seems like a given, assuming it is a downloadable title). I pretty much share the same opinion about R&C. I tried out some of the PS2 games, and I didn't really like them (preferred the Jak series, and I wasn't even that interested in them). I might give it another shot in the future though...I don't think I really like platformers. The visuals do look very nice, although I'd definitely like to see a video of it all in motion (much like the video from GDC last year). It seems like whatever development tools PS3 first parties are using, they're way better than what 3rd parties are using. The recent screens from Lair, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, R&C, and even Hot Shots all look very nice (not to mention the visuals from MotorStorm and F1). I think the team(s) that made the tools for PS3 1st party developers are supposed to have a presentation at GDC, so hopefully they can help even things out a bit. Epic's presentation with UE3/UT3 on the PS3 should be nice too. Sony could really use some improved development tools for the PS3 IMO.
I'm talking in the sense that even developers (particularly those who use different tactics to create a sense of immersion) are unhappy with having the option removed. And the idea that it was removed simply because it was 'last gen' or needless, as Sony tried to claim (and that it had nothing to do with the Immersion deal). And anyone who has played with rumble (particularly with shooters) for any extensive period of time will tell you it is a little jarring to suddenly have it taken away. Many, MANY games now make very efficient use of the technique. everyone else = people who approach Sony negatively. And it certainly will help the fanboys fuel the 'copycat' cry they love to throw about.
IGN basically confirms Warhawk is a download-only title in the latest IGN Weekly. The single player campaign sucked apparently, so they just dropped it and decided to go multiplayer-only. Basically takes the game off my radar, but some of you guys might like it. They kept ground and air combat, and given what they showed (large maps, lots of customization for characters and vehicles, bunch of modes, etc.), I guess it could be really fun online. I'd be curious to see how they price it. edit:Technically, they didn't actually confirm it was download-only. Given the rumors that have been going around for a while and confirmation that this is a multiplayer-only game, I'd be surprised if it wasn't.
It is true, at least the multiplayer-only part. Straight from the mouth of the devs. Technically, I guess the download-only part has yet to be confirmed, but I'd be surprised if that part of the rumor(s) turned out to be wrong, while the other part was right. Not that it really matters whether it is a retail or downloadable title (although downloadable title may imply a slightly cheaper asking price...I hope). They'll probably spin it as some great move, but it is obvious that they ran into some serious issues in the development of the game. I think the lead artist in the video even says something like, "One great thing about this decision is that this allows us to reuse some of the great assets we created later on for an expansion pack or something." I guess getting this is better than a poor attempt at making it all work, or even nothing at all (Warhawk was rumored to be canceled at one point). It might even be a pretty big hit for the PSN, but as I said, I'm pretty disappointed. It seemed like they had some ambitious goals for the game (obviously too ambitious), and I was looking forward to being able to do some of the things they mentioned while the game was in early development (basically futuristic flight sim meets GTA meets Battlefield...or something like that). edit:BTW, I realized I never actually posted a link to the video: http://media.games.ign.com/articles/693/693580/vids_1.html The Warhawk footage is the first segment, you can stop watching after that since there's not much else.
Don't know about TV shows specifically, but I think there are plans to have a video download service available for the PS3 (mostly for movies I believe). Given Sony's history, I think that service might be ready in another 4, or maybe 5 years. If we're lucky. I suppose that there could be some "unofficial" ways to download TV shows and play them on the PS3.
You can burn music onto the PS3, but you can't play it during gameplay unless the developer designed the game to allow for it. AFAIK, no PS3 game supports this feature at the moment, and it probably isn't high on the priority list either.
Yeah, that's a stupid feature to begin with. I haven't even stored a single song on my 360. But something important to me is having a controller that can rumble. Is that in the works?
Sony licensed Immersion's rumble tech so that they could put their rumble technology into something. Possibly a new controller. Or possibly something else.
This Home stuff could be 100% BS, but I'll be happy as long as we see more of this: Video: http://rapidshare.com/files/19470314/hs.avi.html (sound cuts off) http://download.yousendit.com/4B7D38E129835C85 (sound out-of-sync) Contains minor spoilers for the Heroes episode that will air tomorrow night. That's right, a major unreleased game that hasn't had new media in about 10 months gets a spot on one of the most popular shows on TV, revealing never-before-seen footage. Don't ask me how that works. I guess if they don't show off the game, I'll try to watch more TV.
