Minor note, but Sony originally offered a 20GB SKU and a 60GB SKU (not 40/60). Though there was really only the $599 60GB SKU available. The other SKU was done just so they could say there was a $499 option (at least in NA). I agree that they should have kept (and actually offered) that version though. A lot of people seem to want a PS3 at $399, especially after their E3 showing. I don't mind them offering 2 SKUs, but I don't really think the HDD size really matters that much either, especially since you can use your own (either USB or 2.5" SATA). I'm assuming most of these SKUs are being offered (or not being offered) due to things going on with the cost reduction of the PS3 and not so much what consumers want (or what Sony thinks consumers want). BTW, there is a video out there of Kaz confirming that production of the 60GB SKU has stopped if anyone wants further "proof." I'm still assuming that they'll just offer the 80GB SKU w/o MotorStorm for $499 (or maybe $549), but of course they won't confirm that right now. I'll wait until all the stock runs out and we're in this situation before I start wondering why Sony is so stupid.
It's not really anything new, it's just new for the Sony side (as far as being on the negative end of it). It was just as bad for the Sega/Sony short 'war', and it's been a steady stream for the Nintendo side until the rise of the DS and now the Wii. round and round and round Another reason I think fanboyism is stupid.
it's false, I don't see how an additional 20GB would mean that much anyway http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=6427&Itemid=2
nice work. so true. its fine if someone loves one system but when people take it personal its just sad. Like part of their identity is in that game...talk about sad. that dude had a conniption! BUT DONT TALK BAD ABOUT NINTENDO OR I'LL KILL YOU
I never understood what was so great about the MGS games. I've only played one of them, MGS 2 remake for Xbox and didn't like it at all. IMO as a stealth action game it isn't as good as Splinter Cell. And the story doesn't make any sense. And don't get me started on those long cut scenes. So if MGS 4 is PS3's only exclusive, then I don't have any intentions of owning one.
i played the first on on my computer a while back, or played about 2 hours of it, but i agree with you. I didnt have the patience to hide in the shadows and all that. And dont even let the alarm go off...took forever for people to go away!
by the way gamestop has that 5 BR movies deal that people were talking about http://www.gamestop.com/gs/weeklyad/current/071307/default.asp?affid=3002&mc_id=0713nl
There is a rumor going on that on Aug 1st the Xbox core will be at $199, the premium at $299, and elite at $399 http://www.destructoid.com/blogs/Zero+Iscariot/things-just-got-re-interesting-er--35141.phtml I saw this on digg but take it with a grain of salt (although Aug 1 is not that far away so it might be wise to still wait)
Now Sony says the price cut is only "temporary". My initial reaction is this is a jerky move that could be a reaction to Microsoft's Xbox360 problems. Someone set me straight. To me, there is no difference between a 60GB or 80GB PS3 priced at $599.00 http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/32894/97/
All that proves is that Sony needs to layoff some more people from the PR division. Of course, all three statements don't really conflict (except for Reeves' comments about there being no 60 PS3 in stores by the end of July...that's just nonsense I think). Just worded differently to make it seem that way. Unless I got the original source wrong, this news isn't very reliable. The site that started it (I think) isn't very trustworthy. I'm not sure why they wouldn't just announce this at E3. That site is just reporting the same information from the original source in this thread, only they misinterpreted the statements a bit I think. Unless I missed something.
True but it might be worth waiting just until Aug 1st just to see whats up (since its only a couple of weeks away)
Yeah, that's true. I just wanted to make sure people had an idea of how reliable the news is. If this rumor does spread, it might as well be true since Microsoft may end up cutting the price just because so many people were waiting for a price cut.
there is a demo of bioshock..of course another fps. But its a weird one http://e3.gamespot.com/live.html?tag=topslot;title;1&om_act=convert&om_clk=topslot
I believe they are saying it is temporary so that people will go out and buy the 60GB instead of wait for the 80GB to drop down to $499. It makes no sense to keep the 80GB at $599 after the 60GB is gone because right now without the game it would be valued around $540 (599 for the console -59 for the game). With hard drives becoming cheaper to manufacture and removing the EE chip, Sony can afford to drop the price down to $499 once the 60GB is gone.
i hope so...if not that would be a crappy thing to do. what the hell were they thinking with having no rumble and halfassing their "motion" control. pretty shameless
