The Rowdies are the LARRY SMITHS of fans, they work hard they are loyal and the newbie fans have no clue about them
Who's a newbie? I went to 20 or so games last year. I've been going to Rocket's games since the early 80's.
you aren't a newbie, newbies don't necessarily have to watch all those games or been around in that era to be considered a non-newbie they just have to love the story of the houston rockets. the story of players like moses malone, elvin hayes, robert reid, ralph sampson, otis thorpe, akeem, rudy t,etc its about the legacy of heroes, from playing games in crappy sam houston collesium to the summit, thats how we got to the toyota center as long you know who built that house
amen, we lost our football team so we have one now that will take years and years to estabish an identity we have a baseball team with zero hall of famers (going to change in five years ) and very little history other than a few good runs that came up short and then a wonderfull 04-05 run that really put the Stros on the map by winning in the playoffs for the first time. The Rockets have a great tradition of hall of fame players, deep playoff runs and a certain buzz that comes with star power. We have gone too long without playoff success and it changes this season!
Lighten up its about having fun and cheering your team...you cant be all stiff and **** all the time...you gotta have fun at these games...im sorry if you dont like that im guessig you are in the minority..
though i really hate baseball with a passion now, i did once like it. when Glen Davis, Nolan Ryan, Billy Hatcher, Bob Knepper (knepper ball!), Mike Scott were there. when nobody was on roids. that was houston astros baseball!
Ill-Skillz the rowdies embraced the tinman, so i will never hate on them! however, tell me to meet them in the hood of san antonio made me think they were a bunch of YOFs out to get me! i understand your point that fans should be enthused anyway for the game, but thats not the point. the point is they bring karma.
Exactly..its brings an atmosphere to the TC that even players like t-mac and enjoy and say that helps the rockets get that extra momentum in the 4th quarter...ill find the link where he said that..i think chuck hayes said it as well...point is rowdies and fans that dress up in wigs and face paint are great for the TC and i enjoy it very it much as do most fans i beleive.. Red n Rowdy forever = )
dont worry about ill-skillz i think he was the same guy who had a pretty long thread about when the laker fan got sprayed with silly string by clutch the bear and had his issues with the rowdies. he isnt ever going to agree with with you over being "rowdy" to each his own i am more on the "rowdies" side when going to the game. if people want to sit on their hands fine, but do not get upset over people who try to cheer their team on, esp when the players themselves have said that the fans do have an impact on the game but their jeers and cheers. even if my cheering has an 1/100000th of an impact on the outcome of the game i am gonna do my best to have that little impact. There is a reason why JVG and Tmac bought those tickets last year because a louder more rambunctious atmosphere was needed at the TC, that should tell people something right there that fans really do make a difference from providing extra inspiration/motivation to the home team to intimidation for the visiting team. i have some friends that have played college basketball and gone to play some professional in the nba or overseas and one of them (who actually was cut by the rockets last season in camp casey j) told me that though he played in a loud crowd at stanford going to play the kings in arco when he was a rookie was just something else. the best players do not let the noise effect them that much its players 3-12 that could be rattled and a lot of games are usually decided by players 3-12
Hahah good stuff.. I remember that I heard he built it for his lover Cat like the Emperor Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal for his lover.
I'm down with everything you wrote. That's the stuff I like about the Rockets. I care about the basketball side if the game and not all the superflous crap designed to attract marginal fans of the game. I know it's a neccesity to fill the seats and when the team is not winning you have to get the marginal fans to come down to the TC somehow. I just don't care for some guy jumping up and down hundreds of times a game in front of me, while I'm trying to watch the game.
Let's get something straight. I am 100% for cheering. But when you do stuff like the incredibly stupid crap some of the Rowdies yelled at that woman. You've gone overboard. Like I said, I went to over 20 games last year. The Rowdies were a speck on a nat's ass.
Anyone concerned about having a comfortable enough seat and a calm environment should watch the Rockets on their couch. Anyone that wants to yell and cheer with passion should make like the Rowdies. Evan
II-Skillz I wouldn't do that to you. but if they started playing Hip Hop Hurray by Naughty by Nature, i'd get off my seat! "Ho! Hay! ho Hay!"
With a name like "Ill Skillz," I assume you know something about hip-hop culture. DON'T PLAYA HATE The "speck on a nat's ass", as you call it, was so notable that the Rockets built their entire marketing campaign on it during the playoffs. This "speck on a nat's ass", has spurred multiple threads on this BBS including this 4-page thread. How many 4 page threads have you inspired? This "speck on a nat's ass", inspired Tracy McGrady to buy an additional 20 seats at the end of preseason after seeing the Rowdies in action. This "speck on a nat's ass", is going to happen again this season based on the success of last season. So if you don't like it. Fine. But at least just acknowledge that your opinion about this "speck on a nat's ass" is your own personal opinion ...and not that of the Rockets themselves or many of the fans on this BBS.
