By the way, anyone thinking we are getting rid of Battier is in freaking denial. I swear Morey snorts crack off Battier's ass crack.
He looked to me to be working out with the Rockets, but I just haven't seen enough of him to say definitely either way. Before the season, though, I was positive he'd be what puts this team over the top.
guys, don't write this off so quickly as a BS rumor. I think it has substance. look, with the emergence of wafer, i think this team is better suited playing him than ron artest, because wafer has a better perimeter game that is suited to playing alongside Yao and in defense, having battier might be fine enough. Besides an abundance of talent at the swing position, it is also unlikely for the ROX to resign Artest given his age and history and also Tmac's health. Thus, it might be better off for us to get a gd talented PG in return if possible. Thirdly, I think this rumor leaked out because lets face it, RON ARTEST is the only piece that can bring us a substantial piece in return that will improve the roster. And this gets the media excited- to have a big name on the trade rumor.
i wish there was some way to swing jarret jack from the pacers. maybe take on marquis daniels as well to make the money match?
I don't buy into the argument that Wafer's emergence makes Artest expendable. Wafer's hot shooting aside, he cannot replace Artest's defense and his ability to muscle his way to the basket when the going gets tough, something I think we'll be needing in the playoffs. But I agree, ambrose86, that Artest would be able to bring in a substantial player in return. And if Morey is sure that Artest won't sign here, as some seem to speculate, then no question he'll have to make a deal.
Yes, I agree that what Artest brings to the table would be especially useful come playoff time. That's why i did not say it is a deal that must happen, even if Ron is sure to leave after his contract is up. The point to take away is that the rockets have the incentive to make a trade if they think they can land a piece that won't hurt this team in the short term, but one that'll improve this team in the long run.
Who'd we get though? There's no point guard out there that anyone would trade away who is worth Artest(in terms of contribution to the team this year). Otherwise we don't have a position of need. Perhaps package with Scola or Landry for a big? Also unlikely because of avaliability. Also, if Artest was just worth 2 low 1st round picks at the beginning of the year, then proceeds to become injured during the year, what kind of trade value does he have now? Unless we're talking about a heist at the level of KG or Pau Gasol trade, Ron's not leaving here.
The Rox have no reason to get mad at Artest. Sure he has been injured, but Artest has already won several games for us, and he had been on his best behaviour as of late. They might want to trade him because of his value right now, but there's no way the Rox are unhappy with him...
Just for the fun of it: Ron + Alston + Houston 1st pick for Devon Harris + 2nd round pick from Nets. Nets is moving back to NY, Ron loves NY and Alston is a NY legend.. Make sense for both team...
Never. Another thing to remember is that Ron can walk away from any team at the end of the season.Only teams with Championship aspirations or those who could increase an already sufficient amount of salary cap room would want him IMO.
Ron is a chucker but Von Wafer is a streaky shooter. Ron has shown that he can step up in clutch situations like in the first Utah Jazz game and has mental/physical toughness which McGrady and Yao lack. He also is an experienced player which matters a great deal. I'm not saying that this is bs,'cause it could be true but I hope it isn't.
How about this one? Successful Trade Scenario Congratulations on a successful trade. Due to Houston and Toronto being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Houston and Toronto had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
