Morey talks up Battier's value, as if we have a "Big Four" rather than a Big Three. And he's right in the sense that Battier's value goes beyond the box score. Two "yeah, but"s are in my brain here: "Yeah, but" Morey has included Battier in trade proposals that haven't gone through (it has seemed; don't ask me to quote them now); and "yeah, but" Battier's numbers have gone down recently.

Why would the Heat do that? Are they out of their mind?

This rumor absolutely sounds like nonsense. Why would the rockets trade for Artest in the offseason practically for nothing and decide to trade him in the middle of the season. Artest first of all has very minimal trade value at this point. How can you trade a player whose been injured for part of the season. Artest is actually a better fit in the rockets offense if Adelman plays him the right way. We need to keep Artest & Wafer and get rid of McGrady during the offseason. We don't need a player who needs to have the ball constantly in order to score. Yao should be taking majority of the shots on this team.

The rox defense would be a lot better if adelman stopped playing hayes or landry behind yao and played deke instead. I can guarantee the defense would be way more efficient than it is now.

No way you will get Nash or any of those other point guards for Artest. As far as team chemistry what team chemistry they havent won anything yet. Why would you put your faith in an inexperienced player (Wafer) in the playoffs instead of Artest doesn't make any freakin sense.

Defense would be yes......no doubt the layup drill would be over.

How is that relevant to Battier?

We'd be a better rebounding team. I'm not sure about the defensive efficiency overall, though. It's hard to deny that there are some things on defense that Deke does not do well.

Everybody likes to see blocked shots and field goals made. In the absence of those, a player's "value" automatically diminishes.

Battier is even more valuable to this team offensively than he is defensively. Believe it.

this is ridiculous....we are 11 games over 500 and we want to trade one of our biggest acquisitions?...Artest has stayed under control and i'm excited to see what he will do when he is healthy...
When the playoffs roll around and the games turn into a slower tempo with half court sets, Ron will be even more valuable ....
    defense wins championshipss....
I HOPE we do not make any changes......
    I like our chances....

Shane's value to the offense is equal to chuck hayes. Same thing, different position.

Nah, we both know Battier can hit open looks and isn't afraid to take or make big shots. Sure, he's one dimensional and played like trash the other night but even on his worst night he's more of an offensive threat than Chuck is. Even if Battier is cold you still have to respect his range. Offensively, boxing Chuck out is all you need to worry about.

The reason the Rockets are winning right now without TMAC and Artest is because of quick lineups, with better fast breaking, and faster offensive sets. Not to mention quick passes, and good jump shooting by our big men. Deke would slow us down big time. I'd love to see him against bigger lineups but to have played him against fast teams like Denver etc would be disastrous. Not to mention he would not be able to match up against Utah anyways (both Okur and Milsap are too quick for him).

Why would he slow the team down. To start a break, the first thing you have to do is rebound. No rebounds no fastbreaks. Also a blocked shot can start the break the other way. The deal is, anyone that's too quick for deke, is too quick for yao. Not only that, deke can protect the basket and not need the ball to be effective. In the playoffs against bigger teams, they will need deke. Yao gets into foul trouble and u see happens, its a layup drill. Tonight, watch the score and where they come from when yao is in, then watch it when he's out, u will see why deke should play more.
