It does actually. ron's more offensively oriented than shane, so you're not getting the same type of player. Also, you got him for almost nothing. While Ariza and Shane are not identical players, they play a very similar role on the court, and well the same position. I dont see the logic of having them two at 6-7 mill each, there's room for one guy like that, not two. Although i'm not crazy about giving Ariza 6-7 million from just one "breakout" year and I love having shane on the team, i think keeping both is a waste of money and space.
The Rockets are NOT a contending team right now. Artest is gone, T-Mac mailed it in a long time ago and Yao is most likely out the full year. Over paying for Ariza makes NO SENSE unless they deal Battier. T
ok so thats why i said it makes no sense because with the trading for Artest Battier could have been traded last year. Artest gives you offense and defense. Based on last year before the season started No one would have known McGrady was going to be the player he was. You had McGrady and Yao has your guys that can score. Artest would have been your 3rd scoring option and you have scola, brooks, and whoever as your 4th. Why couldn't battier be traded then. Also what guys don't realize is that RA system is going to have a balance scoring. In his portland and kings days the team was basically balanced. Flame me if you want but til this day i still believe that JVG is best suited for this team. If you reward Jeff with the same talent RA received who knows how things would be. Yeah its in the past but still.
Well then it's time to deal Battier. The man's going to be 31 next season and is worthless to a rebuilding team. Try to trade him for picks and expirings to a team that needs him. I'm sure Portland, Denver, Cleveland, and Boston would be interested.
I kinda have a bad Shandon Anderson feeling about this. But there'd be some poor man's Gerald Wallace/Tayshaun Prince slight optimism about it too.
if Ariza becomes a Rocket, then we should move Battier since both players play the same position and neither is capable of creating own shot and it won't make sense to start both i wouldn't mind trading Battier to Portland for Rudy and maybe Frye and a pick
Might as well try to trade Battier to the Blazers for young guys like Rudy, if Artest does sign with the lakers and we can't S&T with Lakers just blow it up.
I actually think Ariza is an upgrade from Artest and a better fit in Adelman's offense. Call me crazy. I also still believe in Morey stirring the pot. I am not convinced it is over yet. When you look at guys getting signed and guys that are out there....what is going to happen to guys like Shawn Marion? I would bet he is looking for a contender to play on. How about Marion and Ariza racing up and down the floor with Brooks? Everything is in play for us right now except Yao.........and possibly Scola, unless we get overwhelmed for a deal for Scola. I still believe Morey is going to pull some cats out of the hat and we will be in the top 6 next year in the West and will be a contender if Yao comes back effective in the 2nd half. If not, I expect us to be sitting very pretty for 2010-11.
dthat's why i wrote that Artest is more offesnively oriented than Shane....as much as fans want to say they are the same type of player they ARE NOT. Ron is not a role player, shane is. Just because they are both known for D and play the same position doesn't mean they are similar.
Full mid-level is not "cheap", you're actually paying the full price for an unproven commodity. DM hasn't made a mistake yet in my eyes (the steve francis and Bonzi signings were low risk high reward moves so they weren't really mistakes, just didn't pan out), so if he says Ariza is a steal at the MLE then its probably true.

I don't think we're overpaying Ariza at all at the MLE - to me, he's a younger Battier. Young, athletic and has length - I know GATER loves this potential signing. Morey talked about buying Llull because "he's a good asset". Maybe his goal is to collect more assets for possible trades down the line? I'd be fairly certain most playoff/contending teams would trip over themselves to add a player of Ariza's caliber for only the MLE price tag. He's only 24, we can afford for him to get better to possibly help us down the line, or even to use as trade bait. Ariza/Brooks/Landry sounds like a pretty damn attractive trade package. I'd rather Morey acquire these assets than sign cheap veterans who are stop gaps. Using our MLE isnt going to kill our cap room in 2010 either, assuming Yao/Tracy come off the books.
Um, how was that a bad move when it was a low risk move? Morey didn't sign him to a big contract. He didn't work out, but we didn't lose much. IMO, it was a great move by Morey because it had a lot more upside than downside. It just ended up that we got the downside (which was not a big deal anyway).
I almost died when i read this. Are you kidding me!!!! How about this. I can actually said Morey got owned in that trade. Giving up Steve Francis and the 2nd round pick which we basically got for free. OOhhh man yeah we didn't lose much
