Let's hope this deal gets through... I am excited again to find someone that caters the needs of the Rockets right off the bat...
If Toronto takes Bargani (or Morrison for a trade with Portland), Chicago takes Tyrus Thomas, Charlotte takes Rudy Gay and Portland takes Morrison (or Bargnani in a trade with Toronto) -- my question is this: Does Atlanta say "Deal's Off" to take Aldridge? Or do they ask the Rockets who we want, Aldridge or Roy? Do we still take Roy if Aldridge is available?
We still take Roy. Hopefully Altanta doesn't change its mind, but if they do, I think Minnesota would deal with us.
If we don't take Aldrige then I'll be pissed. We can draft him. Send Stro for another pick or another decent SG like Green or Childress.
that would be shady if the hawks took lamarcus without the intent to trade him for whoever drafts sheldon. they already promised s. williams they would draft him, and in turn williams cancelled a lot of his workouts. i guess they could cancel the deal with the rockets and deal with whoever wants aldridge. that team would need to draft s. williams though
I don't see it as "shady" at all. I'm no insider but I'm inclined to believe that anything being discussed is being done so at a very high level. Something along the lines of a quick call/conversation that "hey, if Player X is there at 5 and Player Y is there at 8, are you interested in a swap?". If the answer is "Yes", then the conversation moves on to some loose particulars such as roster players and other picks. Maybe someone else has first hand experience or knowlwdge but this draft seems too unpredictable to lock into anything early.
In the draftexpress article, it says Arn Tellem (the agent of both Roy and Williams) is "notorious for getting his clients drafted by the that teams he wants them at." If you guys didn't know, Tellem is considered a super-agent (with a lot of leverage, influence and power) and a list of clients like Kobe, Jermaine O'Neal, Pau Gasol, Antwan Jamison and namely, Tracy McGrady. He was the guy that put Kobe in L.A. and got McGrady out of Orlando. Considering that he's both Roy and Williams' agent AND McGrady's agent as well, what could he be thinking? What kind of situation could he want out of this draft deal? Obviously the Houston Rockets brand has one of the largest marketing bases now with Yao and McGrady. Can we read into this and speculate that Arn, with his own agenda, feels Roy is of all-star caliber and perhaps will propel this team to compete in the finals? And that this possible trade is in large part due to his own research and analysis of the potential of his clients? Shrug.
There's a thread about that very subject in the Draft Forum: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=113518 It's a cool idea to speculate about to say the least.
what is the chance that Roy will be gone by the #5 pick? And what happens if ATL drafts Roy for us and Williams goes for either #6 or #7? Will the deal still go through?
true, anything can go. but the fact that the hawks promised sheldon that he would be a hawk is what would be "shady" if they decided to go with someone else. it would be like the rockets passing on rashard lewis divided by three. having not worked out for other possible suitors puts williams at a disadvantage, that's what i would consider shady. i'm talking about hurting a player, not another team.
i don't think the deal with the rockets will go through. something else will happen. if the wolves or celts take sheldon that high for some reason, i'm sure it's to have a chance to deal for Roy with the hawks. but i don't think any team would risk drafting someone for a chance to trade for another player. it's too much of a risk, and they need to be certain they will answer their needs in the draft. if roy does indeed go to the hawks at 5, it's going to be hell waiting for 6 and 7 to go by without s.williams being called
If the celts or wolves were going to get in on hte ATL deal, they would alreadybe a player. The difference is we have a young, cheap viable player in LutherHead. Don't know about Celts or wolves. If they don't, which must be the presumption because they haven't jumped into the ATL swap, they risk a great deal if they pick Shelden william on the hope of holding ATL hostage to trade for Roy.
I'm sure the Rockets would have to find another offer that the Hawks would accept. If they can't, the Hawks probably don't mind keeping him or they could shop him to other teams that may want him.
From ATL's point of view, this trade is a GREAT one b/c not only do they get the player that they want in Shelden Williams, but they get him at a spot that many "experters" have predicted him to get and in the process get a good combo guard in Luther Head. Houston is losing a good combo guard in Head, but at the same time, we have a glaring need from someone like Roy who can come in and help us right away, so we will take the lose to move up. ATL would be stupid to draft Williams at #5, when he is projected at 8 or 9 at best in most drafts. So its not as much about the money as it is about getting the extra piece in Head.
Fine, if we end up getting Rudy Gay instead. The whole thing hinges on the Bulls selecting Tyrus Thomas for themselves or another team. 1 Toronto: Bargnani/Morrison 2 Chicago: Tyrus Thomas (traded to ???) 3 Charlotte: Brandon Roy (thanks MJ) 4 Portland: Morrison/Bargnani 5 Atlanta: Rudy Gay!!! (traded to the Rockets for Shelden Williams at #8 and Luther Head) The above is our best case scenario.
If Atl. takes Roy and Minn or the Celts. take Sheldon, then I'm pretty sure they would take Cedric Simmons as a consolation prize. I hope!
