Aldridge would be a terrible pick in that situation. We would end up with zero depth at SG, and a glut at PF. And his numbers were unimpressive at Texas, for all the hype that he is getting.

To me the risk/reward is much better to just get the player you want who is a clear upgrade. Too many times in the past the Rockets have held onto guys and didn't want to give them up to make a deal happen (i.e. Griffin for Rashard and Roderick Rhodes in some other deal), only to have it turn into a lost opportunity.

Now I like Luther, but he's replaceable. He's an undersized SG, that needs a lot of improvement to be a PG or a lot of improvement to be a starting SG. And if we sign Mike James (or another PG like Speedy Claxton) then Luther's minutes would have been cut anyway. So if we can solidify getting a "can't miss prospect" (in my mind at least) out of Head, then we should.

Don't mess around. Just take the opportunity when it comes.

Yes, they could, but are Atlanta, Minnesota, or Boston willing to trade down low enough and risk losing the players they want (Sheldon Williams, Foye, Marcus Williams)? As much as you guys are unwilling to risk the chance of possibly losing out on Roy, these teams are equally unwilling to lose the player they want.

I can't get over how much Roy reminds me of a more explosive, shorter Jalen Rose after watching the highlights on Yahoo! Sports, its uncanny...

He averaged about 20/5/4 when he was on the Bulls, not bad...

Except Roy is considered a very good defensive player as well, and he's more physical.

I'm almost getting burned out on the draft/trade rumors. From now on, I'll check in here only once a day from work until Wednesday.

The question is who isa threat to pick those players if they trade down? Most say Williams is going higher than usual. After us, how many other teams need a PG?

I agree. Clearly if we're going for the "home run" type of player in Roy we're going to have to give up something to get him. In a perfect world that bogus rumor of Howard + our pick would have been enough to get it done before the reality of Howard having negative trade value sets in.

Giving up Luther stinks but like m_cable said, he's replaceable. He was probably never going to amount to anything more than a bench player. An athletic guard and/or 3-pt specialist can be found in the second round with our #32 pick so immediately replacing him is possible.

I would love to get one of Atl's numerous SF's in any deal we work with them. They have a bunch just sitting around that could probably get decent playing time with us.

too bad we cant dump JHoward's contract on them.

what do you think if we did a swap of

    Atl # 5 + resigned Harrington / Rox # 8 + JHoward + LHead

I don't wanna lose Luther Head. But I will trust you guys who are pro-Roy and follow the Roy bandwagon. He better be good!

And too many times, the Rockets have become so infatuated with a player that they end up giving up far more for that player than they needed.

    -3 draft picks for Griffin
-giving up a 1st rounder for draft rights to Terrence Morris(a 2nd rounder)
-paying big bucks for Moochie/Mo Taylor/Shandon when there was no way in hell they would make that much in the free agent market

My beef is not so much that the Rockets are trying to trade up, it’s that they’ve done such a poor job of negotiating. Too many times, CD has been taken to school in the negotiating room and this would be another example of that. You have some degree of leverage over these teams (Atlanta, Minnesota), seeing as you know what players they’re looking to draft, and yet the best deal you can negotiate is one where we end up losing the #8 and the one player on this roster, outside of Yao and Mcgrady, that has any trade value (Head). At the very most, we should be giving up #8+#32 and maybe the draft rights to Spanoullis.

Lol so many damn possibilities for this draft. Bet Daryl Morey can't even get something calculated.

I'm having the same feeling I had the year we traded for Francis. Sure Francis' potential was pretty high but I didn't want to trade Dickerson away. This is how I feel about Luther Head. BUT if Roy is as good as advertised, I guess it's best that this deal goes through.

I can understand those of you who have qualms about this deal in thinking we're giving up too much (New Jack), but LOL at those of you who add in "I would be much happier if we could just throw in Howard instead." Yeah, and I would be happy if we could trade Hayes for Dwight Howard.

I think New Jack has a legitimate concern regarding our leverage over Minn and Boston. However, I think it's too risky to assume that Minnesota wants Foye over Roy. If Roy is your guy, you have to secure him.

Portland will not take Roy as they have Martell Webster. The absolute worst case scenario has Roy going #3 to Charlotte and Gay #4 to Portland. Morrison is not worth making this deal over.

OK, Luther, keep your panties on. You might actually like Atlanta.

Sorry to say, we need an impact player out of this draft. We can replace Luther, at the least, with the MLE.

By the way, Vasilis Spanoulis will probably be a good player in the NBA, not quite the shooter that Luther is but with other skills. And we got him in the 2nd round. So throwing HIM away makes less sense than indiscriminately trading Luther.
