Yes because with Yao and Bonzi, we'll be running laps around the competition.

Is it possible we could just be doing the #26 pick and cash considerations for Ike Diogu?

Personally, I like the rumor as it is. I don't want to take on any over-paid guys like Tinsley or Murphy.

    Memo to Morey's secretary:

If Jerry West calls, take a message.

If Larry Bird, Kevin McHale or Isiah Thomas calls, put them straight through. Pull him out of a meeting with the Pope if you have to.

Jerry West sure did a great job with those Grizzlies. They were close to Oden but no cigar. :D

Since the draft pick doesn't come with a salary value, the Rockets would have to include a player with a similar salary to Diogu's. Sura's would work.

I think they can. The max cash they can offer is around 3M which covers Diogu's salary.

It doesn't really make much sense for Pacers to take cash though. They need another PG (Head) but also to keep Diogu.

Head+no.26 for Diogu seems like overpaying again (ie the Battier trade all over).

    Possible nine-man rotations:

    Tinsley Head
    Dunleavy Daniels
    Granger Williams
    O'Neal Foster
    Murphy

    Alston James
    McGrady Bonzi
    Battier Snyder
    Hayes Diogu
    Yao

A no brainer, if true. Do it.

Here's a write up on Diogu from NBA.COM

2006-07 REVIEW: Considered by many analysts to be the key to the Golden State trade because of his untapped potential, Diogu produced in bursts but not consistently. His overall averages with the Pacers (5.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 45.4 percent shooting) were deceptive. In nine games in which he played at least 20 minutes, Diogu averaged 14.0 points, 8.1 rebounds and 48.4 percent shooting. When he didn't get long rotations, he struggled to produce. The No. 9 pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, Diogu's progress undoubtedly has been slowed by playing for three very different head coaches (Mike Montgomery, Don Nelson and Rick Carlisle) in two seasons as a professional – with a fourth on the way.

STRENGTHS: A skilled low-post player, Diogu uses his bulk well in terms of establishing excellent post position. Though slightly under-sized at 6-8, he has long arms a relentless approach to attacking the basket. A deceptively quick jumper, Diogu has plenty of spring. He also has a solid mid-range game. He was an effective 3-point shooter in college (38.7 percent in three season) but has yet to register his first NBA attempt. A very effective offensive rebounder, Diogu also has the potential to become a productive shot-blocker.

WEAKNESSES: He needs a strong counter-move to use against taller, active defenders that can take away his first approach to the basket, a way to finesse those types rather than attempting to overpower them. His footwork could stand improvement, both in terms of maintaining a strong base and in defensive positioning. Because of a tendency to reach, foul trouble also has been problematic. Diogu is convinced he just needs a steady diet of minutes to break through. In order to earn those minutes, however, Diogu must show he can be effective in ways other than scoring.

OUTLOOK: Because of his combination of youth and potential, Diogu is considered a vital piece in the team's offseason retooling. Unless moves are made to thin out a deep crop of frontcourt players, however, he'll have to make substantial improvement to earn a more prominent place in the rotation.

CONTRACT STATUS: He's signed through the 2007-08 season with a team option for 2008-09.

I don't understand what all the hype is about. He is undersized at 6'8 for a PF and barely played on a lottery Indiana team. I understand he was a high pick and probably is of more value than our current 26 pick, but why all the euphoria?

    Interesting stat:

In 2 games against the Spurs last season, he averaged:

    26 min
    50% FG
    92% FT
    11 Reb
    16 Pts.

He had similar numbers vs. the Hawks, Grizzlies, Sixers and Blazers. Against everyone else - eh.

the euphoria is due to him being a taller chuck hayes with offense. he had a lot of offensive rebounds and put-backs. i thinks his potential with our big man coaches is just what this team needs. and at 6'8, he is not too small to handle any power forwards other than tim duncan. and that homo crybaby is really a center.

He's 6'8", but if I recall correctly, what made him get everybody's hopes up before the draft workouts was the fact his wingspan was something like 7'+.

Cash considerations don't work like that. They can't be used to cover incoming salaries.

I'd like to know how his defense is. his help defense especially. How quick is he on his feet defensively when guarding perimeter big men like Nowitzki, Gasol, and Marion sometimes. there are a lot of quality 4's in our division (West, Duncan, Dirk, Gasol). The Rockets should look for defensive versatility in their new 4. I'm not saying he has to shut them down completely...who can? But be effective enough to take them out of their comfort zone and slow them down just a little.

I'm a bit turned off at this trade, but if the Rockets are truly considering Fazekas or whatever....I'll take Diogu.

What do you guys think though...Diogu, Big Baby, or Sean Williams if you had to select from that bunch?

Wasn't Snyder traded for a pick + cash?

Thank you for the first logical analysis. If he can't play defence alongside of Yao Ming what good is he? One of his main jobs will to be protecting the weak side so that Yao Ming doesn't have to try and play defence on both sides and get into foul trouble. I hope this rumor is only put out to mislead. If it's true then I think Morey is about to make his second big mistake. [The first being his lack of determination to get us Ron Artest] :p
