it actually made a lot of sense. Portland would really like to have Ryan Anderson as long as they were able to send out some salary as part of the deal. Aminu can rebound and defend, but he can't shoot and he's not strong. Ed Davis is that old-school 4 that's becoming irrelevant in this league; can only play inside. Anderson would slide right into the 4. Davis can play some 5; Aminu can play some 3. Anderson's shooting is a nice compliment to Aminu or Davis. If they were able to send out Myers Leonard in the process, hell yes Portland would want to do that.

People talking about Ryan Anderson's contract being an albatross or impossible to trade is kind of foolish. People used to talk this way about Joe Johnson's then league's largest 6-year max contract, too, and he got traded. It all depends on context.

Trading Ryan Anderson at the start of free agency to a team with a ton of cap room to clear space for Chris Paul may not be doable without giving up assets. But this is more of a function of what this kind of teams were looking for at that point: either chase big $ free agents of their own or acquire assets by eating salaries.

Trading Ryan Anderson for other under-contract players a week or two into the free agency is not the same situation. Plenty of teams signed guys, especially last season, to deals that look huge in today's market. NYK says they don't want Anderson because he plays the same position as Porzingis, but a 3 way deal can land them some players (like the rumored Portland package) who play different positions.

What shocks me a lot though is how teams are so willing to b the ones to overpay guys in free agency but how unwilling they are to trade for em.

If anderson was a free agent right now, someteam woulda paid him just as much.

Knicks avoiding taking long term salary back in trade but overpay hardaway. Wtf?

Joe Johnson had 4 years left under contract when traded.

This actually seems credible to me, Portland is all in over the cap for years anyway at this point, getting Ryan would actualy be an upgrade for them since they're paying Crabbe, Turner and **** like that for the same money.

smackeddog wrote:Wonder if we trade Courtney Lee to Rockets for the $10mil non-guaranteed contracts. I think he played for them a few years ago and they have a habit of bringing players back. Could use another SG since they traded Lou

This makes sense because then a melo and lee for ariza and Gordon + non guaranteed contracts makes sense.

You aren't winning a chip without Gordon. He is your Klay Thompson.
